🚀 At forty weeks pregnant, I launched the Duo Mobile redesign. Not alone, but alongside one of the most talented engineering teams I've ever worked with. That collaboration, that energy, that shared ownership, it was the most creatively alive I've ever felt. And it went on to win back-to-back Wirecutter Best MFA App awards. Thank you Joshua King, Kevin Carpenter, and Shawn Planko thank you for your leadership and for building something we were all proud of. And thank you to the entire mobile team! After almost eight years at Duo Security and Cisco. 4,000 of us were impacted by layoffs last week. I want to tell my story differently. 🌟 My story is about resilience. And the people who shaped it. ➡️ I joined a team that was kinder than necessary and brilliantly talented. I got to witness Dug Song lead. An experience I'll carry forever. I had leaders who took me under their wing and pushed me to think bigger. Amber Lindholm, Sally Carson, Fraser Marshall, and Bethany Boenker thank you for cheering me on. ➡️ A core memory I have is about the Product Design + Engineering teams, who threw me a starry night baby shower, that included a handmade "I Spy" book. I still read it to my boys. I will always cherish that book. ➡️ Cisco even put my face on their recruiting materials with the words: "You were born to change the world." I believed it then. I believe it now. 🖋️ Right before the layoff, I felt called to write a reflection on my time with the Identity Growth & Adoption team. Where I was the Lead designer for data-informed experiences. A very well timed universal signal if you ask me. I ended that reflection with this: 1️⃣ I am driven by connection. I do my best work collaborating openly building relationships, linking people to each other. 2️⃣ Empathy is not a weakness, it is my superpower. 3️⃣ I am deeply underestimated. I can come off as reserved. But when I fully lean into something, I surprise myself and others. I've been doing it my whole career. The day I was laid off, I didn't stop. 🤖 I jumped onto a design panel with Karla Fernandes (Team of One) about AI and showed up fully. Then I had a coaching session, I showed up. That evening, a science project with my sons. 🌹 The next morning I was meeting with my June co-host planning the next women's Connection Circle. (I founded the Connection Circle to serve my community). ✨ 2 days later I led my first group meditation in nature with eight women. A vision come true. Thank you Lisa Wade for leading this with me! My energy is already moving forward. 📚 I'm not calling in my next chapter. I'm calling in my next book. 👩‍🔬 I'm calling in organizations whose mission is human transformation, where design is the bridge between complexity and clarity, and where showing up fully is not the exception. The fire is lit. And in an AI-driven world, designing for human connection isn't just what I do, it's why I do it. 🚀 Let's gooo.

After an amazing run at Duo and Cisco, I’m moving on to my next adventure. I am one of many people impacted by layoffs last week (about 4000).  I feel truly encouraged by the experiences I’ve had – whether it was traveling to meet customers in person or collaborating virtually with brilliant teammates to solve complex challenges. Thank you to my teammates for years of growth and partnership. I’ve been inspired and lucky to work with so many brilliant, kind, and motivated people!  Thank you to all the customers that shared their feedback, challenges, and stories with me so we could build a product that solves actual customer problems.  I’m deeply grateful to my leaders for their coaching: Jim Simpson, Ash Devata, Iva Blazina Vukelja, Matt Caulfield, Ramit Kanda, Connie Dimitroff. I am officially “Open to Work” and excited to bring my Product and leadership experience to a new team.  

To the talented people impacted by yesterday's Cisco layoffs: your impact goes far beyond a title or role. Your work ethic, leadership, friendships, and contributions mattered deeply — and they will continue to matter wherever you go next. And to those staying: let's support each other. These moments affect entire teams, not just individuals. Layoffs are never just business decisions — they impact people, families, teams, and communities. A job can change overnight, but your value, character, and impact do not. You are more than this moment. Hello LinkedIn world! Unfortunately, today I was informed that my role at Cisco and Duo Security were eliminated in the latest round of layoffs announced yesterday (1 of the 4000). Without question, this has been my favorite place to work. We built of a lot of really cool and impactful stuff over the last several years, and today I'm taking a moment to breathe in and reflect on that effort. I also want to blast out some appreciations publicly, because making cybersecurity feel effortless was 100% a team effort. Caryn Holt : my Day 1 Engineering Manager partner; whether it was strategic planning or finding ways to put our teams in the best spot to succeed, your empathy for your people always shone through. 💚 Landy Naylor, Lei Hung, and Ranine H.: the future of Duo IAM is bright and I can't wait to see what y'all cook up! You exemplify the best and brightest of what's coming. 💚 Alex Rodriguez: thank you for being my Endpoint buddy over the years! There continues to be so much potential with Duo Desktop out there that I know you'll make the most of. Also, thanks for your D&D insights -- I'd be remiss if I failed to mention that. 💚 Joe Duggan: I'll fondly think back on all the "thinking out loud" we did on things like Duo Passport and welcoming you to the parenthood club! 💚 ++ so many Designers that I can't fit here: we proved that strong security and great UX does exist! ++ so many Engineers I can't fit here: Duo continues to have problem-solvers that can mine thorough ambiguity like it's on a fire sale. (I swear this was not AI-generated) 😆 Thank you all for exemplifying Cisco and Duo's culture of "Kinder Than Necessary" and also for being such an awesome team to work with! Most of all, thank you Katrina Hankins. I would not be where I am today without you and it is your unconditional support that keeps me going when times get tough.
