Here is a tentative plan we can share: - The public startup chapter meeting will be in mid-April. - Subsequent meetings are planned for May, August, September, and October. - We plan to start virtually, then go in person, based on member preferences and logistics. - Other social events/meetups are being considered for the summer and holiday season. At the first meeting, we will bring everyone up to speed on the state of the chapter and solicit membership input on how to shape the programming to meet the needs of the Austin cybersecurity community and fulfill the mission of the professional society. Many have reached out to express interest in supporting the chapter relaunch, and we will follow up shortly to get you all engaged. Ahmad J. reposted thisThis is an interesting topic. Is always being “on and in meetings” the best approach for leadership and innovation? Or do we all need more calendar blocks for heads down training and hard work? Thoughts?Ahmad J. reposted thisCorporate teams perform 99% of the time. No warm-ups. No recovery. Just endless "go time" until someone collapses at their desk and HR sends an email about "wellness initiatives." It's like running a marathon every day and calling it team spirit. Brilliant strategy? Professional athletes spend most of their time not competing. They train, recover, analyze, rest, like maniacs obsessed with being ready. Athletes structure their lives around peak performance. Training sessions outnumber competitions by absurd ratios. Recovery gets the same attention as training. Performance review happens after every session. Businesses could learn from this. But they won't. Because Karen from accounting thinks "training day" means the company pays for lunch while someone reads PowerPoint slides about synergy. The best athletic programs balance skill building with competitive performance. They track energy management as carefully as results. They create environments where practice doesn't feel like performance pressure. Try explaining that concept to a manager who thinks burnout is a KPI. "If you're not exhausted, you're not working hard enough." Most offices don't need another meeting. They need fewer meetings and more mastery. Fewer "urgent" emails and more actual energy. Less pretending to be busy and more becoming better at things that matter. The consequences compound beautifully. Teams in constant performance mode lose innovation capacity. They execute existing processes brilliantly while struggling to develop anything new. Burnout stops being preventable and becomes inevitable. Fantastic system. Organizations that apply athletic training principles create sustainable high-performance environments. Structured learning time maintains performance capacity. Scheduled recovery prevents burnout before it compromises productivity. Revolutionary concepts, those. Rest. Practice. Not dying at your desk. If you're tired of pretending burnout is productivity, maybe it's time to train like an athlete instead of collapsing like a corporate zombie. Your body will thank you. What would change if your organization treated skill development like athletes treat training? Besides everyone being less unhappy, obviously.

2025 Texas Cybersecurity Breach Report Texas businesses reported $1.35 billion in cybercrime losses last year. That is a 32% increase from 2023. We analyzed public breach data from the FBI, Texas Attorney General, HHS, and ITRC to understand what is actually happening to Texas organizations. Key findings: Texas ranks #2 nationally for cybercrime complaints 7,854 extortion attacks reported in 2024 Healthcare sector: 2.5 million Texans affected SMBs represent 67% of breach victims Texas seniors lost $489.7 million The Texas Health and Human Services Commission breach went undetected for three and a half years. Nine employees with unauthorized access. No log monitoring. The FBI reports that multi-factor authentication would have prevented four of the six largest breaches nationally in 2024. This analysis includes industry breakdowns, attack vector data, cost calculations, and prevention recommendations based on company size. Every statistic is sourced from government data.
