Abigail Smith reposted thisAbigail Smith reposted thisToday, we recognize Juneteenth and the enduring promise of freedom that lies at the heart of the American story. Juneteenth represents the intersection of two defining American principles. The Declaration of Independence proclaimed that "all men are created equal," and the Emancipation Proclamation declared that enslaved Americans "are, and henceforward shall be free." While those words were written nearly a century apart, they reflect the same enduring pursuit of liberty that continues to define our nation today. The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, but for many enslaved Americans, freedom was not immediately realized. On June 19, 1865, Union forces arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that those who had remained enslaved were free. Juneteenth commemorates that moment. Not simply when freedom was declared, but when freedom was finally delivered to all Americans. At OWT Global, we believe that milestone is worth recognizing. Juneteenth serves as a reminder that our nation's highest ideals are most meaningful when they are put into practice. The realization of freedom for those who had long been denied it is something worthy of acknowledgment, reflection, and celebration. As we approach the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, Juneteenth offers an opportunity to reflect on both our ideals and our progress. The American story has never been one of perfection. It has been one of continual effort to better align our actions with our principles. Time and again, Americans have demonstrated the courage to confront difficult truths, fight for what is right, and move our nation closer to the ideals upon which it was founded. Today, we honor those who gained their freedom, reflect on the sacrifices that made that freedom possible, and celebrate the enduring principles of liberty, equality, and opportunity that continue to unite us as the land of the free and the home of the brave. AX Enterprize recently supported an Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) exercise at Griffiss International Airport, providing aerial overwatch and mission support using a U.S.-made Skydio X10 equipped with advanced visual and thermal imaging capabilities. This exercise brought together multiple volunteer fire departments and the Oneida County ARFF team to strengthen emergency response readiness. AX coordinated with airport operations, Midwest ATC, and EADS to ensure safe and effective flight operations while delivering real-time aerial intelligence to responders on the ground. Our team supports a wide range of drone operations, from commercial testing and #BVLOS innovation at the NY UAS Test Site to public safety missions including disaster response, search and rescue, emergency medical support, and wildfire preparedness. Whether supporting a statewide emergency response, a local #SAR mission, or critical infrastructure operations, our focus remains the same: delivering actionable aerial intelligence, maintaining operational safety, and helping organizations make better decisions when it matters most. Today we honor Richard and Mildred Loving, who were arrested, charged, convicted, and sentenced to 1 year in jail for marrying each other in violation of the law. June 12th is affectionately referred to as Loving Day. #lovingDay

All of them should be alive today—if it weren’t for the policies and actions driven by MAGA, ICE, and Trump’s agenda to diminish and rid America of brown people. Their deaths highlight the devastating human cost of these harmful pursuits and serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for compassion, justice, and change.

Abigail Smith reacted on thisAbigail Smith reacted on thisWhat does 'being proud' mean to you? 🌈 On this last day of Pride month, I reflect on what those words mean. For me, it's taken years to be out and proud about my identity as a queer bisexual woman. I grew up in a religious Midwest community, came out when I was in my early thirties and in my forties I'm really embracing my identity as a queer woman. It hasn't been easy. Pride to me isn't about vibrant celebrations, one month a year to honor our shared identity, flags, or parades; it's about feeling comfortable living in my own skin. Being my full self at work. Talking about my community outside work. Opening up about my identity and being honest with who I am. At the federal agency I led we had our last all-staff leadership meeting in October 2024. We were hosting a session on leadership and how it takes honestly and vulnerability to build trust among teams. So I took the mic, like I hadn't done for the 40+ years before, and shared my identity, noting it didn't change me as a leader or as a person, but instead allowed people to see me as my full, true, authentic self as a bisexual woman. Being the first openly queer leader of a major federal institution wasn't easy. There were attacks. Slurs. Some folks even thought I got the job *because* of my identity (which I don't put on business cards, for what it's worth). Pride month is about feeling seen. Taking up space. Acknowledging our self-worth. I am so grateful to live in California - where so much of this history started - and to work for Google, where our Arts and Culture Lab has an incredible homage to the work generations before me have done. Wally Funk, Grand Dame #13, passed away this week at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of courage, resilience, and unwavering determination that forever changed the course of history. As one of the Mercury 13, Wally successfully completed the same rigorous testing as America’s early astronauts, proving that women possessed the qualifications to fly in space. Although she was denied that opportunity in the 1960s, she refused to let that injustice define her career. Instead, she continued to inspire through decades of flying, instructing, investigating aviation safety, and mentoring future generations. On July 20, 2021, nearly sixty years after her Mercury 13 experience, Wally fulfilled her lifelong dream aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard NS-16, the company’s first crewed spaceflight. At age 82, she became the oldest person ever to travel to space, and she remains the oldest woman ever to do so. (ABC News) When we designated Wally as Grand Dame #13, it was no coincidence. The number honored her place among the Mercury 13 and recognized a lifetime devoted to advancing opportunities for women in aviation and aerospace. Her remarkable legacy will continue to inspire women to believe, achieve, succeed, and lead for generations to come. Fly West, Wally. Your legacy will soar forever with the Dames. Thank you for showing us all how to reach for the stars.

Abigail Smith reacted on thisAbigail Smith reacted on thisLooking forward to joining the Commercial Drone Alliance’s American Drone Leadership Summit on July 31 as a panelist for “At Long Last: Getting Ready for Part 108.” Part 108 represents a pivotal moment for the commercial drone industry. As we move closer to implementation, it’s time to shift the conversation from when the rule will arrive to how operators, manufacturers, and stakeholders can prepare for successful adoption. I’m excited to join fellow industry leaders to discuss what organizations should be doing today to be ready for the next chapter of scalable BVLOS operations.
