Aaron Terry reacted on thisMy name is Megan Scott, and I am Ken and Shelly Scott’s daughter. It is with profound sadness that I share the unexpected passing of my parents, Ken Scott and Shelly Scott. On May 11, while vacationing in Costa Rica, my parents were involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident on their way to the airport to fly home. Their lives were cut short in an instant, leaving behind a family and community who loved them deeply. Many of you knew my dad through his work, and I wanted to reach out to the people whose lives he touched professionally and personally. To know my dad was to know someone who was intelligent, hardworking, generous, funny, and endlessly willing to help others. He was the kind of person who shared his knowledge freely, welcomed people without hesitation, and left every room a little brighter than he found it. My mom was equally remarkable—kind, loving, supportive, and deeply devoted to her family and friends. Over the past few weeks, our family has been overwhelmed by the stories, messages, and memories that have been shared with us. Hearing about the impact my parents had on so many lives has brought us comfort during an unimaginable time. It has reminded us that the measure of a life is not in years, but in the people we love and the difference we make in their lives. Last Friday, I completed my academic year internship with NBCUniversal and still cannot believe I spent the last eight months working at my dream company. I had the incredible opportunity to intern on the Global Publicity team at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. I worked to develop publicity strategy across a range of titles, including The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Wicked: For Good, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Hamnet, and Reminders of Him. From drafting press releases and tracking social media coverage, to building influencer kits and conceptualizing and executing home release events, I learned that a cohesive narrative, backed by the right research, can truly lead to the overwhelming success of a campaign. As a sophomore, I knew I had a lot to learn from my first day, but this team challenged and supported me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Their patience, trust, and willingness to include me in every part of the process not only developed my skills and experience, but also a sense of confidence in myself and my work that I’m excited to keep growing. I want to give the biggest thank you to my manager, Cecilia Sandoval, who has genuinely shaped the kind of professional I want to be. Her constant guidance, strong work ethic, and authenticity in everything she does have changed the way I approach my own work and set a standard that I'll carry far beyond this internship. To Lea Porteneuve, Jennifer Black, Rebecca Wolfson, Jenny Zurita, Mario Vaughn-Parra, and Jeffrey McAndrew, thank you for welcoming me, teaching me, and pushing me to grow every day. Aaron Terry liked thisAaron Terry liked thisLisa Su took over AMD when the company was in the kind of condition that makes markets not so surreptitiously move on. The stock was sitting around US$3. AMD was losing more than US$1 billion a year. Intel dominated the CPU market so completely that AMD had become the technology equivalent of, “Oh yeah, are they still around?” Then an MIT-trained engineer with no prior CEO experience stepped into the role and began rebuilding the company. That leader was Lisa Su. Here is the part I find genuinely interesting. She did not arrive with fanfare, grand speeches about disruption, reinvention, or any corporate transformation theatre as is so often the case. She made choices. → AMD stopped trying to compete everywhere at once → The company concentrated on high-performance computing → Capital and attention went into rebuilding chip architecture and product execution → The Zen platform launched in 2017 and materially changed AMD’s competitive position → By 2025, AMD reported record annual revenue of US$34.6 billion → Data centre revenue alone reached US$16.6 billion → Microsoft, Meta, Oracle and others began deploying AMD AI accelerators at scale, That turnaround happened through discipline. It came from strategic focus, hard trade-offs, patience, technical excellence and the rebuilding of an operational engine that could actually deliver. There is a broader lesson here for founders, boards and leadership teams navigating complexity. Everybody enjoys talking about ambition and aspiration. The harder work is narrowing focus, rebuilding systems, fixing execution problems, aligning capital with capability and staying with the unglamorous work long enough for the market to notice. Lisa Su did exactly that. Somewhere along the way, a company many had written off became part of the global AI infrastructure race. That is leadership of the first order.
