Helping healthcare organizations drive activation, engagement, and adoption.

About us

Healthcare products don't fail in development. They fail at adoption. ZoCo helps healthcare organizations drive the engagement that determines whether a product succeeds. We work with organizations where utilization determines outcomes: chronic care management, remote patient monitoring, women's health, MSK, behavioral health, and other models where sustained patient and provider engagement isn't optional. Our approach connects behavior design, workflow research, UX, and product strategy: → We find the real barriers, not just the surface ones by identifying the behavioral, motivational, and workflow factors that determine whether someone adopts, engages, or drops off. → We prioritize the highest-leverage interventions, so your team has confidence in the bets you place. → We design for the real world, not the ideal one — for the messy, complex environments where care actually happens. → We translate findings into decisions your team can act on, not a deck that needs interpreting. If engagement drives your outcomes, adoption can't be left to chance. ZoCo Design has been recognized on lists such as the Inc. 5000, international Webby awards, Inc. Best Workplaces, and as the #1 design studio in Columbus by Columbus CEO. For more information visit: zocodesign.com

Building is easy. Getting people to USE what you built is the hard part. Most teams try to solve this by asking their users what they want. The problem is that most people aren't great at predicting their own future behaviors. A healthcare provider will tell you "yes, I'd use that feature" (and mean it!)…and then never open it when it's goes live. So teams build toward the wrong signal, launch, and then scramble to fix adoption after the fact. ZoCo works with digital health product teams to study what users actually do, not just what they say they will. Paired with behavior science, that research drives strategy and design decisions that move adoption, activation, and engagement. Do you have an adoption metric you’re trying to move? Let’s chat. 🤓

For families facing food insecurity, finding help shouldn't mean navigating a maze of systems. As one of the country's most innovative organizations fighting hunger, the Mid-Ohio Food Collective is building the infrastructure that makes access to support easier, more equitable, and more effective. We partnered with MOFC to enable this mission by unifying 5 existing tools into one platform that makes it easier for food banks, pantries, and communities to serve our neighbors with dignity and impact. We are grateful to work alongside the inspiring leaders at MOFC Nick Davis, Mark Mollenkopf, & Carol Riffle, M.S. 💚 Read the full case study → https://lnkd.in/gG8kqjrA

ZoCo Senior Designer Gianna Ayala shares how she integrates AI into the design process, the lessons she’s learned along the way, and why the designer’s role is more important than ever. Thanks for sharing, Gigi!

I know. The world definitely needed one more AI article. 😅 As someone who uses AI almost every day as part of my design process, I've found myself somewhere in the middle of the conversation. Over the past few years, I've learned that the biggest value doesn't come from asking AI to design for me. It comes from using it to accelerate the repetitive parts of the process so I can spend more time on the work that requires human judgment. I wrote a short article about how I've integrated AI into my workflow at ZoCo, the lessons I've learned along the way, and why I think the role of the designer is more important than ever. https://lnkd.in/gPU7_GdN

More automation and AI sounds like progress. But in healthcare, it's not always the win you'd expect. ZoCo Founder Lacey Picazo chatted with Shannon Peavey Madhani recently on the Product Rising podcast to discuss AI in healthcare, clinician behavior, and why understanding human realities and clinical workflow matters just as much as the technology itself. Some of our favorite highlights: 📽️ 05:54: The stakeholder problem. Patients, providers, and payers all have to say yes separately, for different reasons. One "yes" doesn't carry the others. 📽️ 08:29: It's easy to build. It's still not easy to get adoption. 📽️ 12:16: Human behavior matters more than the feature list. 📽️ 18:09: Where AI creates hesitation, and why some friction is good. 📽️ 28:31: What clinicians really want from AI. 📽️ 44:22: The food bank story: how fear shapes behavior, and why that matters in healthcare and beyond. Imagine you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic illness marked by unpredictable flare-ups. The people around you want to help, but when symptoms strike, coordinating support can feel overwhelming when simply making it through the day demands all your energy. There has to be a better way. A biopharma innovation group approached us with a concept for a platform to support people living with complex, chronic diseases. Through conversations with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers, we uncovered the everyday challenges that often go unseen. Together with users, we refined the concept, adding critical nuance and shaping features around real needs. When families first begin searching for autism care, they’re often overwhelmed, short on time, and unsure where to start. Cortica, a nationwide provider of integrated whole-child autism care, partnered with us to better understand those moments to redesign their digital experience. Through in-depth research, we identified the barriers, emotions, and decision-making patterns that informed a complete website redesign. The new experience helps families quickly identify the right next step in their care journey. Cheers to Cortica for helping children and families unlock joy, celebrate strengths, and thrive through whole-child care. Learn more about our work with them: https://lnkd.in/gwVaRR_3

🔜 For our Columbus product friends looking for a great professional development event! When ZoCo Managing Director Leah McDougald co-founded the Columbus chapter of Women In Product alongside Liz Otley and Amber Bielak, they knew they wanted to partner with communities already doing great work. And because we all know time is one of the most limited resources (especially for women!), they're joining forces with ProductTank Columbus leaders Kim Woods and Lisa Parsons for a special co-hosted event on June 18. Join AI adoption and fluency product pro Dom Michalec for a hands-on workshop to boost AI adoption. Leave with a clearer understanding of what matters in AI, what doesn't, and how to drive meaningful, lasting use. Space is limited! RSVP: https://lnkd.in/gr8WJXmW

It’s always a good week around the ZoCo studio when a client launches a new website we designed. It’s an even better one when TWO go live at once. Cheers to our friends at Gifthealth and Cleverley + Associates on their recent launches! Gifthealth is transforming prescription access, and their new site now reflects the full ecosystem behind that mission across patient, pharma, and prescriber audiences. ➡️ www.gifthealth.com Cleverley + Associates has long been a trusted voice in healthcare finance and pricing strategy. Their new site brings forward the depth of that expertise while reinforcing the relationships and credibility that define their work with hospital leaders nationwide. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gSHRXxtC Great digital experiences help organizations articulate their value, build trust with the right audiences, and support where they’re headed next. We’re grateful to play a part in these organizations’ next chapters of growth.

When you focus only on digital, you miss most of the story. Great experiences are not designed in fragments, and we love being thrown into the mess. Show us everything: - the patient journey - the nurse workflows - the billing statements - the brochures - the awkward workarounds - the thing your team has quietly complained about for years Yes, we can solve interface problems. But more importantly, we can uncover the invisible friction sitting underneath them, unlocking even greater impact. https://lnkd.in/gbva9s2Z
