YJSP is excited to announce our partnership with Hakko! Hakko has generously sponsored professional soldering and rework equipment for our avionics hardware development, including soldering, desoldering, hot tweezer, and PCB holding tools. These tools are fundamental to our avionics development and testing efforts. From assembling custom PCBs to performing board-level debugging, repairs, and rework, Hakko’s equipment enables our team to build reliable electronics and maintain high standards throughout our extensive hardware development process. Reliable soldering and rework tools are critical to developing robust electrical systems and continuing to push collegiate rocketry forward. We are incredibly grateful for Hakko’s support and honored to have them as one of our sponsors as we continue pushing the frontier of collegiate rocketry. Thank you, Hakko Products, for supporting our mission!

About us
The Yellow Jacket Space Program (YJSP) is a student-led organization founded in 2017 to bring advanced rocketry development to the Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently, the team has the collegiate liquid rocketry altitude record of over 56 thousand feet. The program has the goal of designing, building, and flying a sounding rocket capable of carrying a 10 kilogram scientific payload past the 100 kilometer Kármán line. The suborbital launch vehicle is planned to be a liquid-fueled, active-controlled rocket with separation and recovery operations. The program has about 330 members, bringing together undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines including Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering, along with Computer Science and Business. The project is led by students and operates under the faculty advisement of the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering. YJSP has four overall program goals that guide the development process: 1) Allow students to work on complex, real-world problems that foster the growth of professional engineering skills and knowledge. 2) Promote and improve programs for student rocket engineering within YJSP, the School of Aerospace Engineering, the College of Engineering, and the Georgia Institute of Technology 3) Establish an ongoing, safe program for launch vehicle design, testing, and operation 4) Provide a platform for STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) outreach opportunities to students of all academic levels throughout the State of Georgia The team pursues these goals through one long-term objective: develop and operate a liquid-fueled sounding rocket capable of delivering a scientific payload above the Kármán Line and return it safely to the ground. This ambitious goal introduces challenges that exceed a student’s typical academic experience.

At 11:42 am PDT on Friday May 15th, YJSP's premier N2O-IPA vehicle, Felicette, launched to a minimum apogee of 47,366' AGL with a potential for higher altitudes as more data is processed. Despite some hardware failures shortly after liftoff, including the recovery system immediately deploying the nosecone, the vehicle performed extremely well for the condition it was in, and validated many systems that can be applied to future vehicles. Most importantly, the launch of Felicette proved that YJSP, as a program, is capable of bringing out a vehicle, a custom 60' launch rail, and a dedicated crew out to the Black Rock Desert and safely set up and launch an extremely complex, record-breaking liquid rocket in some of the harshest conditions in the world. The team has put in thousands of hours, countless all nighters, and years of their lives to get this vehicle to the rail and into the air, and this beautiful flight only validates how far we've come and how much more there's still to learn. The Darcy program will be back with our launch of Felicette II, our next generation liquid spaceshot. In the meantime, YJSP will be launching an extensive test campaign to validate our complex recovery system before sending them to space. Special thanks to our friends at the FAA and the Bureau of Land Management for this incredibly unique and special opportunity to launch a liquid rocket of this scale. We're truly honored to have access to this place, and we look forward to treating it with all the respect it deserves in the future. And as always, a huge thank you to our sponsors for supporting the team and program to launch and beyond. We’re back and hungry for more. The Felicette Launch Livestream will begin at 4:30am PDT. All remaining gates to launch have been completed with the decision to launch tomorrow stemming from winds being outside the allowable limit. The Felicette team is hoping to build from the successes of Vespula and launch even higher and obtain valuable data for the entire team. Thank you again to everyone who has made this program and launch campaign reach this point. It’s heads down to the finish line bright and early tomorrow morning. On April 11th, 2026, YJSP launched the highest collegiate liquid rocket ever flown by students. This accomplishment is the culmination of 2.5 years of dedication and thousands of hours of work by our members. Reaching an apogee of 56,590 feet, with a max Mach of 1.89, we're proud to shatter expectations of what's thought to be possible for a collegiate club. We can't wait to continue to push boundaries as we move forward in our mission to send a liquid rocket to space! As always, a huge thank you to all our sponsors; this wouldn't be possible without you: Platinum Sponsors: Bob Sitkoff | Hermeus | Marotta Controls | Georgia Tech Student Government Association | Georgia Tech - Aerospace Engineering | Altium® | Prentex Alloy Fabricators, Inc | Boltline | Kenesto Corporation | TANIQ | Technetics Group Gold Sponsors: CFX ANSYS Inc | Boeing | Saint-Gobain | Ursa Major | Thern, Inc. | Infra-Metals Co.| MISTRAS Group Silver Sponsors: Blue Origin | Georgia Tech Student Foundation | Georgia Tech Foundation Inc. | Texas Instruments | DwyerOmega | Relativity Space | Graphitestore.com | AutomationDirect | UWT Group | 321 equipment | AVCON INDUSTRIES INC | Setra Systems | Notion | Birmingham Fastener, Inc. | Hakko Products Progressive Automations | Haltermann Solutions | GMN Bearing USA | Gems Sensors & Controls | Newtex | CFturbo | Varda Space Industries | Teslong Inc | Valworx, Inc. | Atkore | CYNTECH | Genuis tools USA | FT wind sensors | Hartfiel Automation | Duromax power equipment Bronze Sponsors: Titan Fittings | Diversified Fire and Safety | AIAA | Generico | Rice Hydro Inc | Xometry | Atlanta AIAA | North Georgia Cylinder and Hydraulic Co. | ChemPoint | Komodo Fire Systems

YJSP is proud to announce our partnership with FT Technologies, who generously donated an ultrasonic anemometer for the Stairway to Heaven launch rail. Launching from some of the most remote places in the country, it’s crucial for the team to have the most up-to-date wind data to inform both launch rail operation and vehicle wind limits. With FT Technologies’ support, the team will have this data on hand, even in places miles from the nearest weather station. Thank you to FT WIND SENSORS for donating this critical piece of hardware. We can’t wait to see it sitting at the top of the rail at launch.

Furthering our launch rail sponsorship series, YJSP is proud to announce our partnership with Genius Tools! Genuis Tools has graciously sponsored the torque wrenches for this project. These tools are crucial not only for assembling the largest collegiate launch rail in the United States, but also for ensuring its safety. Without these tools, it would be impossible to assemble this project, and we would be unable to push the boundaries of what's possible. Thank you Genius Tools Americas for your help in advancing collegiate rocketry!

YJSP is proud to continue our Stairway to Heaven sponsor series by announcing our partnership with Birmingham Fastener! They have generously donated all fasteners for the launch rail. These fasteners hold everything together and provide the vital structural integrity required to get the launch rail vertical. We're very grateful that Birmingham Fastener would sponsor us as we continue to push collegiate rocketry to its limits. Without them, completing USA's tallest collegiate launch rail would be impossible. We are honored to have Birmingham Fasteners as one of our sponsors and sincerely value their commitment to YJSP in our race to the Kármán line. Thank you, Birmingham Fastener, Inc. for your generous support!
