Updates

  • Noteworthy development, as 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 Sanae Takaichi and 𝐔𝐊 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 Keir Starmer sign a new offshore wind cooperation framework, following the March memorandum of cooperation on clean energy and offshore wind development, alongside a broader £18bn investment package including up to £9bn tied to UK offshore wind. Usually, state-level bilateral deals like this in Japan are not isolated signals—they tend to be broadly pre-aligned with major institutional players and trading conglomerates that are closely connected to policy direction. So the likely near-term read is 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐊 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝, where projects are already structured and investable, while 𝐔𝐊 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 buildout. https://lnkd.in/gJKkiWES

  • DEME Group, through its joint venture Japan Offshore Marine (JOM), won a contract for the 𝐎𝐠𝐚–𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢–𝐀𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧, covering engineering and vessel charter services for the installation of 21 offshore wind turbines. The project will use 21 Vestas V236-15 MW turbines, marking Japan’s first deployment of 𝟏𝟓 𝐌𝐖-𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬. https://lnkd.in/gbf53F8a

  • HD Renewable Energy’s announced a collaboration with 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐲𝐨 𝐆𝐚𝐬 / 東京瓦斯(株) as part of its continued expansion 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧. That partnership includes both operational service agreements and offtake arrangements across 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟑𝟒𝟎 𝐌𝐖. It combines 149 MW awarded under the Long-Term Decarbonization Auction (LTDA), providing stable, policy-backed revenue with operations targeted around FY2029. The remaining ~190 MW is secured through long-term offtake agreements with 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐲𝐨 𝐆𝐚𝐬/東京瓦斯(株). Together, the LTDA support and long-term offtake agreements create a highly bankable portfolio with strong revenue visibility and reduced market risk. https://lnkd.in/g7SEYxj5

  • 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 - 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫! Energy Vault is entering Japan by acquiring an 𝟖𝟓𝟎 𝐌𝐖 𝐩𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, marking its first major move into what it sees as a high-growth market. The portfolio includes 350 MW of advanced projects (targeted for 2027–2028) plus 500 MW of earlier-stage developments, giving it a multi-year expansion pipeline. https://lnkd.in/g8eEwuWm
