  • Tax reform may dominate the headlines, but compliance determines the long-term impact. For organisations, legislative change is rarely the finish line—it is the starting point for governance, risk management, and strategic decision-making. As regulatory expectations continue to evolve, businesses that proactively strengthen their compliance frameworks will be better positioned to manage risk, build stakeholder confidence, and create sustainable value. In our latest Legal Insight Series, we explore an important question: How should organisations respond once the excitement around tax reform has passed? I’d be interested to hear your perspective. What do you believe is the biggest challenge businesses face in adapting to new tax and regulatory requirements? Share your thoughts in the comments, then swipe through the carousel to see our perspective. #TaxReform #CorporateGovernance #TaxCompliance #BusinessLaw #RiskManagement #CorporateStrategy #LegalInsights #Governance #WallAndAceLP

  • When technology can create convincing false realities in minutes, how should the law respond? Artificial intelligence is transforming how information is created, shared, and consumed. Alongside its benefits comes a growing challenge: deepfakes and digitally manipulated content that can influence public perception, damage reputations, and undermine trust in democratic institutions. The legal conversation is no longer about technology alone—it is about protecting the integrity of our institutions while preserving fundamental rights. Some of the key questions include: • How do we balance freedom of expression with the need to safeguard electoral integrity? • What legal remedies are available when AI-generated content causes harm? • How can enforcement keep pace with the speed and global reach of digital platforms? • Is our current legal framework sufficient for the realities of AI? As technology continues to evolve, legal systems must adapt thoughtfully, balancing innovation with accountability, rights with responsibility, and expression with public trust. At Wall & Ace LP, we believe these conversations are essential for policymakers, legal practitioners, businesses, technology professionals, and the public alike. What do you think is the biggest legal challenge posed by deepfakes today—regulation, enforcement, or public awareness? We’d love to hear your perspective. #WallAndAceLP #ArtificialIntelligence #Deepfakes #TechnologyLaw #CyberLaw #DigitalGovernance #RuleOfLaw #LegalInnovation #Democracy #ElectionIntegrity #AIRegulation #PublicPolicy #LawAndTechnology #LegalInsights #NigeriaLaw

  • World Environment Day: Sustainability Is a Governance Issue While World Environment Day is marked annually on 5 June, the conversation around environmental responsibility should extend far beyond a single day. Environmental compliance is no longer viewed solely through the lens of corporate social responsibility. Increasingly, it is becoming a core governance and risk-management issue. Organizations today operate in an environment where regulators, investors, consumers, and stakeholders expect greater accountability regarding environmental impact and sustainability practices. Under Nigeria’s evolving regulatory landscape, environmental risk can translate into: • Regulatory sanctions • Reputational damage • Investor concerns • Operational disruptions For directors and management teams, environmental oversight is no longer optional. It forms part of broader governance responsibilities and long-term business sustainability. The organizations that will thrive in the future are those that recognize sustainability not merely as a branding exercise, but as a strategic and governance imperative. At Wall & Ace LP, we believe environmental responsibility is not just about compliance—it is about building resilient institutions and sustainable businesses. Sustainability is not branding. It is governance. #WorldEnvironmentDay #ESG #CorporateGovernance #Sustainability #EnvironmentalLaw #BusinessLaw #RiskManagement #NigeriaBusiness #Leadership #Governance #WallAndAceLP

  • Democracy Day 2026 | The Enduring Importance of Institutions Democracy is often associated with elections, but its true strength lies in the institutions that uphold constitutional governance long after ballots have been counted. The Constitution establishes the framework for democratic order, while an independent judiciary, enforceable fundamental rights, and effective checks and balances ensure that power remains accountable. Strong institutions create certainty, foster public trust, support economic development, and protect the rule of law. When institutions function effectively, democracy becomes more than a political system—it becomes a mechanism for justice, stability, and national progress. As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, it is worth reflecting on the role that constitutional supremacy, judicial independence, and institutional integrity play in sustaining democratic governance. Democracy is sustained by institutions. The rule of law remains central. #DemocracyDay #RuleOfLaw #ConstitutionalLaw #Governance #PublicPolicy #LegalProfession #InstitutionalIntegrity #Leadership #Judiciary #Nigeria #CorporateGovernance #WallAndAceLP #LegalInsights #DemocraticGovernance #Accountability

  • Guardianship and Adoption in Nigeria: They Are Not the Same. In legal practice, the distinction between guardianship and adoption is not merely semantic — it is structural. Under Section 1 of the Child’s Rights Act, the best interest of the child remains paramount. However, the legal consequences of adoption and guardianship differ significantly. Adoption permanently transfers parental rights through a judicial order. Once granted, biological parental rights are extinguished, and the child becomes legally equivalent to a biological child. It is final and binding. Guardianship, on the other hand, grants care and limited authority but does not extinguish biological parental rights. It remains subject to court supervision and may be revocable. In Lagos State, adoption eligibility is governed by Section 121 of the Child’s Rights Law. While the law outlines categories of eligible applicants, eligibility does not guarantee approval. Judicial discretion remains central, and applications often involve: * Welfare investigations * Background screening * Extensive documentation * Judicial caution The legal framework exists — but it is not easily navigated. For families, practitioners, and policymakers alike, understanding this distinction is critical. Compassion matters. But legal structure protects the child’s future. #FamilyLaw #ChildRights #AdoptionLaw #Guardianship #NigerianLaw #LegalFramework #Governance #WallAndAceLP

  • Children’s Day presents an opportunity not only for celebration, but for legal reflection. Under the Child’s Rights Act 2003, every child in Nigeria is entitled to: • The right to survival and development • Protection from discrimination • Protection from abuse and harmful practices • The right to dignity The best interest of the child remains the guiding principle of Nigerian child protection law. Today, we celebrate children — and reaffirm the institutional and societal responsibility to ensure these rights are upheld in practice. Happy Children’s Day. #ChildrensDay #ChildRights #LegalFramework #RuleOfLaw #NigeriaLaw #WallAndAceLP

  • Working late every day has become normalised across many sectors. However, from a legal and compliance standpoint, several considerations arise: • Working hours under the Labour Act are subject to agreement — but must be reasonable. • Overtime is typically governed by employment contracts and collective agreements. • Employees are entitled to rest intervals. • There is no unlimited work doctrine in Nigerian employment law. Where excessive working hours are systemic and unmanaged, employers may face exposure including labour disputes and constructive dismissal claims. Hard work builds organisations. Exploitation erodes them. For HR leaders and business owners: Are your overtime structures clearly defined and defensible? #EmploymentLaw #CorporateGovernance #HRLeadership #WorkplaceCompliance #NigeriaLaw
