Happy AI Appreciation Day! To mark it, we’re sharing a story from Johannes Kuhnle, AI Architect at Veeam. Here’s his story, in his words: Let me tell you why I’m so happy AI exists. My mother is 80 years old and lives with a brain disease that makes her experience the world in her own way. One thing that still brings her instant joy is something simple: a McDonald’s cheeseburger. Earlier this year, I received a call from her care home. She had fallen during lunch, and they asked me to come by. When I arrived, she seemed mostly okay — awake, responsive, able to talk. But something still felt off. Since she had missed lunch, I asked if she wanted something to eat. With a big smile, she asked for two cheeseburgers. It took me about half an hour to get them. She happily ate the first one. Then she started the second. And suddenly, something changed. She struggled to hold it. Her movements became uncoordinated. Instead of bringing the cheeseburger to her mouth, she moved it towards her face in a way that immediately felt wrong. Adrenaline kicked in. I knew something was badly off, but I needed to understand quickly what I was seeing. So I asked ChatGPT. I described the symptoms and asked what to look for. Within seconds, it helped me connect the signs to a possible stroke and guided me through simple checks I could do immediately. Those checks confirmed my fear. I alerted the care team, and an ambulance was called. Thankfully, she received medical care quickly and did not suffer lasting damage. That day reminded me that AI is becoming much more than a work tool. In that moment, I did not need ten search results. I needed clear guidance. And I’m grateful that I can still take my mom to McDonald’s — and see her smile every time she eats a burger. --- Thank you, Johannes! What’s your AI story? Personal, professional, big or small, let us know in the comments below. #AIAppreciationDay

AI is rewriting how enterprises operate, and it's testing something every leader already knows well: how do you bring a team through change without losing what holds it together? That's the conversation we're convening at the CXO Exchange Sydney. The CXO Exchange at #VeeamON brings C-suite technology and security leaders into a closed-door room to talk about leadership, team resilience, and navigating change in the age of AI. Joining us is Ricky Ponting, who captained one of the most dominant sides in a demanding global sport and now coaches at the top of it. Across both roles the work has been the same: leading people through pressure and change, and trusting in the resilience their team started cultivating long before the match began. The CXO Exchange is invitation only. If you’ll be local that week, we’d love to see you at VeeamON: CONVERGE Sydney on 30 July! https://bit.ly/4wHfJqj
