This fall, the University of Illinois System welcomes its first cohort of CAPES Brasillinois Mobility Program doctoral fellows from Brazil. The Brasillinois Mobility Program is a cornerstone of Brazil–U.S. academic cooperation. Under the supervision of faculty across University of Illinois Chicago, University of Illinois Springfield and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the fellows will engage in collaborative research, archival data collection, laboratory research, and field-based studies. The Rock Island Arsenal Defense Alliance (RIADA) and Quad Cities Manufacturing Institute (QCMI) announced continued progress in their joint efforts to strengthen the Quad Cities region’s manufacturing and defense ecosystem. Led by outgoing joint executive director Col. Shawn Creamer (U.S. Army, Ret.), RIADA advanced key advocacy priorities in support of the Rock Island Arsenal – Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC). Jay Walsh joined University of Illinois System President Timothy Killeen, Mexico's Health Secretary David Kershenobich and others in reaffirming the binational commitment to scientific cooperation. 🤝 The Memorandum of Understanding strengthens joint research, technological innovation, and human resource training to address diabetes, obesity, cancer, and immune system diseases. Kershenobich also celebrated the extensive history of collaboration that the University of Illinois System maintains with Mexican institutions, particularly through the I-MMÁS initiative, launched in February 2021 to boost the presence of the Mexican community on its three campuses — Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield — as well as to promote joint research projects.
