Europe set up a law to stop gatekeepers. Two years on, its still unenforced. The Digital Markets Act is the most significant tech regulation Europe has developed. It took years of coordinated work from lawyers, policy makers, leaders, and founders across the continent, all pulling toward one goal: fair and competitive digital markets. For us at trivago, this goal is not abstract. We've experienced Google's self-preferencing in hotel search for years, first through steadily reduced visibility for independent results and, more recently, through hotel search features integrated directly into general search. None of this looks like compliance to us. ⚖️ If enforced properly, the DMA will do more than rein in gatekeepers. It paves the way for a new generation of European businesses to build, compete, and grow based on merit rather than on the terms of Big Tech platforms. It also gives consumers something they've lost over the years: real choice between products and services that compete based on quality and price rather than on who controls the gateway. The legal basis is there. It's clear and settled. What's missing is proper enforcement based on the merits without being diluted or traded as a political bargaining tool. It's time to deliver. 🚀 European businesses and consumers need the level playing field that the DMA was designed to provide. That's why trivago stands with #FinishTheJob, joining founders and companies across Europe in calling on Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to finish the job. Madam President, over to you. 🇪🇺 #FinishTheJob #DigitalMarketsAct

Great talks, curious people, and a whole lot of questions about the future of quality assurance – that was our trivago campus last week. 🚀 We brought together QA engineers, developers, and tech enthusiasts for an evening dedicated to modern QA, and our three speakers didn't hold back: 🎤 Andrei Khabarov broke down the real costs and pitfalls of AI-driven development, and shared how to measure its effectiveness in a way that's fully transparent. 🎤 Alexei Vinogradov challenged the room to rethink their test suites by introducing randomisation – and made a strong case for why it's worth it. 🎤 Renjith R Rajasekharan walked us through how AI agents are making it manageable to test API integrations that never stop changing. The networking that followed was just as engaging as the talks themselves. 💬 Thanks to our speakers for an evening well spent, and to everyone who joined us! More meetups are coming! For two years we have been told AI will wipe out jobs. New data is starting to disagree 🤖 A new working paper from Ramp and Revelio Labs did something most studies cannot. It linked what companies actually pay their AI vendors to their real workforce records, across more than 21,000 US firms. The pattern runs against the doom headlines, find my extended perspective in the article attached 👇 📈 The firms adopting AI most intensively grew headcount by roughly 10% in the two years after adoption. The ones that only dabbled saw little change. The roles everyone said would vanish first held up. Entry-level grew about 12%. Engineering grew too. The logic is not that complicated. If a tool lets your people create far more value, the instinct to employ fewer of them is worth questioning. A while ago Niklas Östberg, CEO of Delivery Hero and a member of our Supervisory Board, put a question to me that kept circling in my mind: "If you can 10x your people, why would you stay at 600?" It cracked open how I think about our direction. At trivago we have run AI in production for over a decade, and this year we are going further and becoming an AI-native company. Our ambition is not to become 6,000 people. It is for our roughly 600 to have the impact of 6,000. For now we are holding headcount flat and driving the transformation from there. It is not the whole picture. The long term is genuinely open, and the mix of work is changing fast underneath the headcount. But following a narrative blindly is as much of a mistake as ignoring one. A personal take. If you are early in your career, or an engineer worried about AI, the companies leaning hardest into it appear to be hiring more of you, not fewer. And if you are choosing where to work, choose the place that embraces AI with real intent. An open mind and the will to keep learning will be the most important skill in the years ahead. Two days. 200+ tech talents. One recap worth watching. 🎬 Here's a look back at this year's trivago Tech Get Together – our annual event bringing trivago's tech community together to share knowledge, build connections, and explore what's next. AI took centre stage, with around half the talks exploring how our teams are putting it to work across different parts of tech and product. The pace of adoption is picking up fast, and so is our progress toward a vision we're building: our 600+ talents making the impact of 6000. Curious, open, and ready to push boundaries – that's the spirit our talents brought to these two days, and it's the same spirit we carry back to our desks. 🚀 It's all in the video ▶️ 👇 And if you want more? Sometimes a system looks perfectly healthy, and still can't keep up. 🤔 That's the puzzle Shen ZhongLi, Backend Software Engineer at trivago, spent weeks trying to solve. CPU low, no blocked threads, no errors: every indicator said everything was fine. But our Kafka consumer kept falling behind, critical alerts kept firing, and the usual fix of throwing more pods at it had stopped working. 🧩 Turns out there wasn't one thing wrong. There were three, and they'd been quietly compounding for years. Finding all three, and understanding how they interacted, cut our infrastructure costs by 83% and ended a long streak of incidents. Not by scaling up, but by having the courage to simplify. Shen ZhongLi wrote up the full investigation: the false starts, the debugging process, and the lesson about problems that only show up in combination.
