Updates

  • Congratulations to Dr. Racha Khalaf and the team at Tampa General Hospital on reaching 50 sedation-free transnasal endoscopy procedures using the EvoEndo Single-Use Endoscopy System. Their team is helping make sedation-free transnasal endoscopy a reality for more pediatric patients living with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and other upper GI conditions. Every milestone represents more than a number. It reflects children receiving the answers they need without sedation, families experiencing less stress, and providers expanding access to a more comfortable endoscopy experience. Congratulations on this important achievement. We look forward to supporting many more milestones ahead. #EvoEndo #SedationFreeEndoscopy #TNE

This month, our #MumaChildrensHospital proudly completed its 50th sedation-free transnasal endoscopy (TNE), an innovative alternative to traditional endoscopy that allows many children with conditions like eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) to avoid general anesthesia while still receiving the care they need. For Michelle Myers, whose son has EoE, the experience has been especially impactful: "As a parent of a child with EoE, finding a less invasive option for monitoring his condition has been incredibly reassuring. The VR headset helped distract and relax my child, turning what could have been an overwhelming experience into one that was calm and manageable. We're so grateful to Racha (Rasha) Khalaf MD, MS and her team for embracing innovative approaches that help families dealing with EoE." #PeopleOfTGH #WeAreTGH

  • Congratulations to the team at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital on this exciting milestone. Stories like Eleanor's highlight how sedation-free transnasal endoscopy is expanding access to innovative pediatric GI care, enabling clinicians to perform transnasal endoscopies safely and comfortably in a variety of care settings without the need for general anesthesia. We're proud to support programs advancing sedation-free TNE with the EvoEndo Endoscopy System. #EvoEndo #SedationFreeTNE #PedsGI

For the first time at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, a patient stayed awake during an endoscopy – and helped redefine what pediatric GI care can look like. That patient was Eleanor. At 17, she’s a dedicated all-star cheerleader, used to pushing through tough routines and long practices. But recently, something much simpler became difficult – swallowing food. Meals were unpredictable, uncomfortable and at times scary, leading her care team to evaluate her for eosinophilic esophagitis. Instead of a traditional procedure with anesthesia, Eleanor and her family chose a new option: transnasal endoscopy – a minimally invasive approach where doctors use a thin, flexible camera through the nose, allowing patients to stay awake while still getting the answers they need. The day before, her doctor called to walk her through every step. By the time she arrived, Eleanor was calm, confident and ready. A 3D model helped Eleanor see exactly what would happen before the procedure even began. With support from Child Life and the steady reassurance of her pediatric gastroenterology team, that confidence carried through the entire experience. The procedure itself was quick. No anesthesia. No long recovery. Just care that met Eleanor where she was. “Looking back, I just keep thinking about how special it was for our daughter to be part of something new,” said Eleanor’s dad, Grant. “That could have been intimidating, but instead it felt like such a positive experience from start to finish.” Today, transnasal endoscopies are opening new doors at Levine Children’s Hospital – improving the patient experience and creating more flexible, thoughtful care for kids who need it. For Eleanor, it’s a reflection of her strength – and a meaningful step forward made possible by a team committed to putting patients first. ❤️ Learn more about the innovative care options available through pediatric gastroenterology at Levine Children’s: https://bit.ly/4agQFhh
