Transformational Prison Project

A system impacted led organization that addresses individual & systemic harms via Restorative Justice circle processes.
About us
The Transformational Prison Project (TPP) was founded in 2013 in MCI-Norfolk, Massachusetts’ largest prison which houses the nation’s oldest population of men serving life sentences. The first participants found healing and transformation. As influencers in the prison system, their modeling of change encouraged others to join, as well. TPP grew from MCI-Norfolk to five more MA correctional institutions—reaching thousands of incarcerated men and women. Now, TPP is led by four formerly incarcerated individuals who personally benefited from TPP’s programs while incarcerated. They are examples of the positive impact that TPP’s work can have on individuals and are dedicating their lives to change the lives of others.

Last week, the Transformational Prison Project took over NOLA for the National Association of Community and Restorative Justice 2026 Conference. 🎭 To say the least, our trip to New Orleans last week was full: full of happiness, tears, laughs, team-bonding, community, accountability, transparency and transformation. On Tuesday, we visited the largest maximum-security prison in the nation, Angola. Words can’t describe our experience, but it was an honor to stand before men who carry stories and lived experiences while symbolizing growth and transformation, including those a part of the New Men Initiative, the PAWS program (Prisoners Assisting Warrior Services) and even on Death Row. From Wednesday to Friday, we had the opportunity of being in the presence of RJ legends like Ms. Fania E. Davis and several other organizations from Boston to Baltimore and Chicago to California, with some of our own team holding workshops and affinity spaces for system-impacted people. NOLA did not know what was coming when we arrived on the scene and no time was wasted on the conference floors, where we heard each other’s stories, and on Bourbon Street, where we engulfed in the rich history of New Orleans. This is one for the books that we will never forget. And to National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ), we thank you for providing space and community for those of us who believe in pushing forth community and restorative justice. #nacrj #nacrjconference #conference #nola #restorativejustice

Do you remember your prom? The excitement, the way you wore your hair, the dress or suit you chose, getting ready and dancing in the middle of the ballroom? For some, that experience never happened. Many were incarcerated as young as 14 and missed milestones like prom. On Saturday, August 1st, 2026, the Transformational Prison Project invites you to our first event, “A Night of Freedom Under the Stars,” a Prom Fundraiser for those who were formerly incarcerated and never had the chance to attend their high school dance. And for you, too! If you believe in second chances and supporting our community, we invite you to join us for a starry night to remember or to support us in helping making the night special. To purchase tickets, click this link: https://lnkd.in/eCNN3aws We can’t wait to see you there ✨ #prom #promnight #prom2k26 #prison #prisontoprom

Tuesday, June 23rd marked another powerful and inspiring legislative briefing for our bill, An Act to End Lifetime Parole for Juveniles and Emerging Adults (H.2051/S.1087). Moderated by Hamza and featuring moving testimony from TPP members Noble, Wally, Jean, and Kentel, the event was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when community comes together in pursuit of justice and meaningful change. We are deeply grateful to Senator Jamie Eldridge for sponsoring this legislation and for his powerful remarks, as well as to co-sponsors, Representative Worrell and Representative Fluker-Reid, for their continued support. Most importantly, thank you to every community member who showed up, participated, and stood with us. Creating lasting systemic change requires all of us working together to build safer, stronger, and more supportive communities. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” #JusticeReform #CommunityPower #SecondChances #EndLifetimeParole #SystemicChange

We hope that you can make it for our legislative briefing on Tuesday, June 23rd around our bill “An Act to End Lifetime Parole for Juveniles and Adults”. This legislation recognizes the unique capacity for growth and reintegration among Transformational Youth (TYs), or those who received a life sentence and were between the ages of 14 and 21 years old at the time of the offense. By ending lifetime parole for TYs, we can replace perpetual punishment with accountability, reconciliation, and the opportunity to rebuild lives, affirming that healing is the foundation of true justice. Please join us on 06/23 to learn more about the bill and how you can get involved! And a huge thank you again to @senatorjamieeldridge @teambrandy617 @@brochris4boston for sponsoring the legislation. #advocacy

Before we close the month out, in honor of Mother’s Day and Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to highlight B and give flowers for all the system impacted moms: Those who are incarcerated, have children incarcerated, or have lost loved ones to violence. And flowers to these amazing mom led orgs (@peaceinstitute, @wab2g, @sistersunchained and more) that support them and surround them in love & community. 🌸 Moms, remember to take time for yourself and breathe in..breathe out. Don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter on our website, or by emailing support@transformprison.org, to stay tuned for updates such as these! #mothersday #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness

It’s always refreshing to start off Mother’s Day with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute’s Mother’s Day Walk for Peace (@peaceinstitute) 🌸 Yesterday in particular marked 30 YEARS STRONG, where we celebrated holding space on Mother’s Day for 30 years in our community’s continued fight for peace so that eventually all mothers can walk the streets without fear of losing their child. For the 30th time, we came together to celebrate all moms, both behind and outside the walls, to let them know that they are not alone and they are seen. This walk is the embodiment of peace, love, dance, celebration, unity and great vibes. We are always honored to be a part of this adored Boston tradition brought to us by the Peace Institute, and can’t wait to continue walking next year! 💜 #MothersDay
