"Contrary to what many assume, greater autonomy does not reduce the importance of humans. It changes their role. Human operators may intervene less often, but when they do, the decisions they make are likely to be more complex, more time-critical and more consequential than ever before." -Ocean Autonomy Cluster Perception is at the heart of that decision-making process. The quality of every decision depends on the quality of the information available. By turning raw Radar and camera data into real-time detections, classifications, and tracks, machine learning perception gives both autonomous systems and human operators the situational awareness required to understand complex environments quickly. Meaningful human oversight isn't just about keeping a person in the loop; it's about giving them the right information, at the right time, in a format they can immediately understand and act on. That's what enables faster, more confident decisions when they matter most. We're excited to celebrate a major milestone for one of the newest members of the Tocaro Blue team! After successfully defending her doctoral thesis, Dr. Bryn Matheson has earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Calgary. Her research, "Quantitative Bone Health Assessment Using Opportunistic CT," explored how machine learning and advanced image processing can extract quantitative bone health metrics from routine clinical CT scans, helping enable large-scale osteoporosis screening without requiring additional imaging. It's an impressive example of how AI can transform existing sensor data into actionable insights. While her doctoral work focused on medical imaging, the underlying principles of machine learning and data processing are the same technologies we're applying to advance maritime perception and situational awareness. We're proud to welcome such exceptional talent to our growing team and look forward to the impact she'll make as we continue developing the next generation of maritime perception software. #MachineLearning #CollisionAvoidance #RadarProcessing #PTZCameraProcessing #MaritimeInnovation #SensorFusion

Modern maritime operations require more than PZT Cameras. They need perception. ApolloCore™ is a software platform that interprets the output of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) EO/IR PTZ cameras to produce maritime perception and situational awareness. ApolloCore works with the data camera sensors already generate, applying machine learning to deliver mechanical and software-based image stabilization, object detection, tracking, range estimation, and multi-sensor data fusion. When paired with ProteusCore™ Radar Processing, it delivers a unified perception layer built for autonomous and defense maritime platforms. The fireworks may be over, but the mission continues. As we return from celebrating the 250th Anniversary of our nation's independence, it's a reminder of what we're working to protect every day: the freedom and security that so many have fought to preserve. To the service members, first responders, and innovators who continue to safeguard our nation and its waterways, thank you for your dedication and sacrifice. Oceans and waterways are still the domain that we know the least about. Our team is back on the water this week, collecting data, supporting clients, and working to advance maritime perception. The celebration may be over, but our commitment to safer seas and stronger maritime awareness continues every day. #IndependenceDay #4thofJuly #DefenseTech #CollisionAvoidance #SensorFusion #MaritimeInnovation #MachineLearning

Autonomous systems are becoming an essential part of the future of maritime operations. From search and rescue to maritime security, Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) help keep people out of harm's way while extending mission reach and persistence on the water. Whether locating a vessel in distress, monitoring hazardous environments, or supporting critical operations, USVs provide valuable awareness where it's needed most. At Tocaro Blue, we believe reliable maritime perception is key to enabling these missions. Innovation matters most when it delivers real-world impact. This week, AUVSI member company Saronic Technologies demonstrated exactly why autonomous systems are becoming an essential part of the future of maritime operations. The U.S. Navy's use of a Saronic Corsair autonomous surface vessel to help rescue the crew of a downed helicopter marks what is believed to be the first personnel recovery mission conducted by an unmanned military vessel. Moments like this underscore the importance of the work happening across the autonomous systems industry. Advances in autonomy are not just expanding operational capabilities, they are helping keep service members out of harm's way, increasing responsiveness in complex environments, and creating new options for missions where every second counts. As a founding member and Training Partner of AUVSI's Trusted UMS Operator™ training and certification program, Saronic continues to lead by example, advancing cutting-edge autonomous maritime technologies while helping develop the trained operators who will put those capabilities to work in the field. We thank the Saronic team for their leadership, partnership, and continued commitment to advancing autonomous maritime technologies. https://lnkd.in/ei7wJUB7

Stabilization is the foundation of PTZ Camera perception. A PTZ camera can't detect, classify, or track what it can't hold in frame. At high zoom, even slight vessel motion pushes contacts out of view, and your perception stack goes blind. That's why ApolloCore™ starts with automatic IMU-driven stabilization that reads vessel attitude directly and preemptively counteracts motion, keeping the camera locked on the horizon even at maximum zoom.
