Stories in Motion: Meet Joel E. Reyes For Joel Reyes, Senior Project Manager at Tideworks, success starts with understanding the people behind the operation. Early in his career, a mentor told him that before supporting a terminal operating system, he needed to understand how a terminal actually works. That advice stuck. More than 16 years later, Joel still approaches every customer engagement the same way: listen first, understand the operation, and build solutions that fit the customer's environment. Whether he's helping deliver complex technology projects, mentoring younger consultants, or finding ways to make processes more effective, Joel brings a practical, customer-first mindset to everything he does. When he's not working with customers, you'll often find him on a mountain bike trail. The same qualities that make him a successful rider also shape how he approaches his work. Thank you, Joel, for your leadership, mentorship, and commitment to helping customers keep cargo moving. What is the cost of delaying technology investment in terminal operations? In The Risk No One Owns: How Inaction Shapes the Future of Intermodal, Julian Galvis, VP of Sales & Marketing at Tideworks Technology, explores how inaction can shape the future of intermodal and marine terminal operations. The article looks at why technology decisions should not only be measured against the risk of implementation, but also against the operational cost of standing still. From terminal operating systems and OCR to reefer monitoring, digital twins and emerging AI tools, the piece considers how modern technologies can support efficiency, visibility and stronger decision-making across terminal operations. We’re proud to share our latest RailFreight.com brand story on Intermodal Pro (IPRO), and why terminals around the world rely on it. From real-time operations and move orchestration to digital twin visibility and seamless integration, IPRO is built to help terminals improve flow, increase productivity, and scale with confidence. If you’re looking to modernize your rail operations without disrupting how your terminal runs, check out the article: https://hubs.ly/Q04n6bgD0 #rail #intermodal #terminaloperations #TOS #railfreight

In intermodal, we spend a lot of time talking about disruption, volatility, and risk. But what about the risk that comes from doing nothing? Julian Galvis’ latest piece with Port Technology International - PTI explores a reality many operations are quietly facing: the biggest threat isn’t always a single point of failure, it’s the accumulation of small decisions not made. Systems delayed. Investments deferred. Visibility gaps accepted as “just how it works.” Over time, that inaction starts to shape outcomes in ways that are hard to reverse. It’s a thoughtful look at how risk shows up in day-to-day operations, and why addressing it requires ownership across the business, not just in pockets. Take a few minutes to read the article and consider where inaction might be influencing your own operation. https://hubs.ly/Q04lSLs_0

AI is everywhere in conversation, but what’s actually working today within terminal operations? In Container Management's recent interview from TOC Europe, Subbu Bhat takes a grounded view: “Using LLMs per se in day-to-day decisions… I have not seen it at scale yet.” Instead, adoption is progressing in stages—assist, recommend, automate—with “making decisions [with AI]… a little far away.” Just as important are the fundamentals. “AI does not filter out noise; it amplifies it,” which puts the focus on clean data, connected systems, and strong operational discipline. At Tideworks, we’ve seen how conversations around risk and change tend to play out in intermodal operations. What once felt like a big leap, moving from manual processes to connected systems and modern TOS platforms, is now the baseline for performance. In his latest piece with Port Technology International - PTI, Julian Galvis shares his perspective on how the industry has evolved and why delaying key technology decisions can come with real operational tradeoffs. It’s a simple question, but an important one: what is the cost of inaction? Read more in the full article below.
💡Change is often framed as a risk. But in intermodal operations, the bigger risk may be doing nothing. In his latest contribution for Port Technology International, Julian Galvis, VP of Sales & Marketing at Tideworks Technology, reflects on how far terminal and intermodal operations have moved, from Telex, faxes and manual manifests to connected port systems and modern TOS platforms. The piece looks at why technologies once met with scepticism are now central to terminal performance, and what operators may lose when key technology decisions are delayed. Julian asks a simple but important question: 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 🔗Read the full contribution here: https://lnkd.in/ddzEJEcJ 📚Explore more PTI Industry Insights here: https://lnkd.in/gnsj4tAy #Intermodal #Ports #TerminalOperations #Digitalisation #TOS #SupplyChain #PortTechnology

Visibility is where optimization starts. In our latest with RailFreight.com, we share why terminals rely on Tideworks IPRO from real-time insight to more efficient rail, yard, and gate operations. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eKHvBhpZ #rail #intermodal #terminaloperations #TOS #railfreight
Before you can optimise your operations, you need a full view of what’s happening across your terminal. At the heart of this transformation is Intermodal Pro (IPRO), Tideworks Technology’s foundational TOS solution enabling efficient rail, yard, and gate planning for terminals of any size. Here are the top 10 reasons why your terminal needs to upgrade to IPRO and the rest of the Tideworks TOS suite. #railfreight #railfreightnews #railcargonews

Great piece from Subbu Bhat on practical AI adoption for terminals. Start with audits and data quality, follow the Assist > Recommend > Automate sequence, keep humans in the loop, and require explainability. The emphasis on building trust before full automation is exactly what operators need to move from urgency to sustainable value. Yet most terminals find themselves caught between urgency and uncertainty, hearing the same question repeated in planning meetings, “Where do we begin?” Written by Subbu Bhat, Interim President & Head of Engineering, Tideworks Technology. #TOS #Ports #Automation #Logistics #SupplyChain #WorldCargoNews https://lnkd.in/eSqTrZXi
