Here's the Franco-American HR law update every hiring manager needs to know in 2026: 🇫🇷 France — Directive EU 2023/970 Mandatory transposition into French law by June 7, 2026. Salary range disclosure required in all job postings. Employers prohibited from requesting candidates' salary history. DevsData Reality check: 75% of French companies haven't started preparing. Only 6.2% have a formalised compliance project. Eurojobs 🇺🇸 United States — State-by-State 17 states plus Washington D.C. already require salary range disclosure in job postings as of 2026 — including California ($10,000 per violation), Colorado, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. No federal law exists yet — but enforcement is intensifying significantly. Freelancer What this means if you hire across both markets: → Your French job postings must include salary ranges by June 2026 — legally → Your US postings in 17+ states must already include them — or you're already exposed → Candidates in both markets increasingly refuse to apply without visible compensation The cultural shift is happening whether companies are ready or not.
