Sweco has been awarded a framework agreement by a Water Board consisting of four water authorities in the southwestern delta region of the Netherlands. “Sweco has built a longstanding relationship with these water authorities through a series of wastewater and climate adaptation projects, and we are pleased to continue contributing our expertise. As Dutch water authorities face growing environmental and regulatory pressures, we are noting increasing demand for specialist engineering and consultancy services that support infrastructure renewal and long-term resilience,” says Eugene Grüter, Business Area President, Sweco in the Netherlands. Some European cities have experienced record-breaking temperatures in recent weeks, highlighting a reality that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: extreme heat is no longer an occasional event but a growing challenge for the built environment. How can our cities become more resilient? The answer goes far beyond temporary measures. It requires smarter planning, greener infrastructure and innovative design that helps neighbourhoods stay cooler while improving quality of life. Our latest article explores practical strategies already being implemented across Europe, from expanding urban green spaces and introducing nature-based solutions to adapting buildings and infrastructure for a warmer future. It also highlights why heat resilience needs to be considered at every scale — from individual streets and buildings to entire cities. As Europe continues to warm faster than the global average, designing cities that can withstand more frequent and intense heatwaves is becoming an essential part of creating sustainable, liveable communities. Read the full article and discover how engineering, architecture and urban planning can help Europe's cities stay cool in a warming climate. https://lnkd.in/emzwsE6h #SwecoGroup #TransformingSocietyTogether

Data frem for gætteri. Demographic change is reshaping how we design the places where we live, meet and grow. As people live longer and societies age, creating environments that support inclusion, independence and stronger communities is becoming increasingly important. At Sweco, we believe architecture and engineering can play an important role in responding to this shift. In Denmark, two projects show what this can look like in practice. The Gauerslund Community Centre brings together a nursing home and a daycare centre in one shared environment, creating opportunities for everyday interaction between generations and strengthening social cohesion through shared activities and spaces. Meanwhile, the House of Generations in Aarhus rethinks residential living by bringing children, young people, families, adults with disabilities and older residents together in one integrated community designed to encourage connection and support changing needs throughout life. These projects demonstrate how inclusive design can help create healthier, more resilient communities — supporting not only individual well-being but also stronger social connections across generations. Working on complex infrastructure projects means navigating enormous amounts of information, technical standards and project documentation. Finding the right knowledge at the right moment can make a real difference to quality, efficiency and decision-making. That is where AI can create value — not by replacing expertise, but by making it easier to access and apply it. Sweco’s Expert Chat is a secure, AI-powered search and dialogue tool developed to help experts work more efficiently with complex document collections. By making information easier to find, explore and understand, the tool supports project teams in spending less time searching and more time creating value for clients. “We are continuing to expand how we combine expertise with technology. This tool enables the project team and client to use AI safely and securely in their everyday work,” says Sigurd Løvfall, Chief Digital Officer, Sweco Group. Whether you’re managing complex infrastructure, navigating regulatory requirements or seeking to unlock value from existing documentation, our team can help you design and deploy a solution tailored to your needs.
