As we head into the Matariki long weekend in New Zealand, the StaplesVR team took time to celebrate two team birthdays, enjoy some homemade cookies, and reflect on the meaning of Matariki. As a team, we love recognising not only birthdays, but also important cultural, national, and religious events throughout the year. It's a great way to learn from one another and celebrate what makes our team unique. Matariki is often known as the Māori New Year, centred on remembrance, celebration, and looking to the future. Another beautiful perspective is that Matariki can also be seen as a wellbeing check-in. Through the story of Matariki and her eight children, we're encouraged to reflect on our emotional, physical, environmental, social, and spiritual wellbeing—and whether we're still making space for hope, dreams, and aspirations. A timely reminder for all of us to pause, reflect, reconnect, and look ahead. Defence + Industry – Canberra | 1 July Our team recently attended the CASG Defence + Industry event in Canberra, joining Defence leaders, industry representatives and innovators to discuss the future of capability delivery, accountability and national security. A consistent theme throughout the day was the importance of clear accountability, streamlined decision-making and stronger collaboration across Defence, government and industry. The establishment of the National Armaments Director role and the launch of the Defence Delivery Agency reflect a renewed focus on delivery, integrity and disciplined execution within the capability system. Presentations from Defence leaders highlighted the critical role industry plays in supporting national security, sovereign capability and innovation. Discussions also reinforced the growing connection between military capability and industrial capacity, particularly as Australia and New Zealand seek to build resilient, trusted and connected defence industry ecosystems. A particular highlight was hearing from industry representatives on the opportunities and challenges facing Defence SMEs, and the vital contribution they make to capability outcomes. The key takeaway was clear: delivering future capability requires strong partnerships, clear responsibilities and a shared commitment to ensuring capability remains ready, relevant and required. With Defence placing increased emphasis on delivery, accountability and capability outcomes, StaplesVR sees significant opportunities to support industry and Defence through immersive VR and AR training solutions that accelerate learning, improve training effectiveness and help translate capability investments into operational outcomes across Australia and New Zealand.
