Today in #Sikh History: As recorded in the journal Young India, MK Gandhi stated in 1931, “I ask you to accept my word and the resolution of the Congress that it will not betray a single individual, much less a community. . . If it does so, the Congress would not only seal its own doom but that of the country too. Moreover, the Sikhs are a brave people. They know how to safeguard their rights by the exercise of arms if it should ever come to that.” This and other promises made by senior Congress Leaders before Independence assured the Sikhs that they would have their rights and freedoms upheld in a future Independent India. All of these promises were broken after 1947. #TodayInHistory #India #Punjab #Panjab #SikhHistory

In the twenty-sixth salok (couplet), Guru Nanak Sahib uses the letter ਬ (‘babbā’) to convey that IkOankar (the Divine) is the sole Player of this world-game. The four ages are the game board, and all beings are mere pawns moved by the One. Some are freed; others remain bound—all according to the Divine Command. This salok invites us to recognize our place in this vast, unknowable play. Will we acknowledge the One as the true Player? Will we let go of the illusion that we control the game? Jasleen Kaur talks about how death is a thing we all must do. But we are deeply afraid of it. In classically religious Sikh and non-Sikh understandings, and even in non-religious understandings, death is personified as an aggressive thing that snatches us away, drags us by our hair, beats us over the head. It is merciless. It is violent. We dread it. Where does this understanding come from? Watch: https://lnkd.in/gYKKuYCh #SikhCommunity #Sikhs #Sikhi #Wisdom

Guru Arjan Sahib in the fourth Salok of Gatha says: "Know the One having (eternal) existence as true, the visible one who dies as false. Nanak (signature): Praise (of IkOankar) goes along, (which is) uttered in the company of the Sage-Guru.3." Guru Granth Sahib 1360 Guru Arjan urges us to know the One having eternal existence, IkOankar (One Universal Integrative Force, 1Force), as true and eternal, and the transient visible beings and creation — the things which die — as false or temporary. The Sikh world commemorates July 2 as the foundation day of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Elevated above other worldly thrones, the platform stood — occupied by Guru Harigobind Sahib, the bearer of two swords of Miri-Piri (Political-Spiritual). The Guru, on 15 June 1606 (5 Har 1663), laid the foundation of Sri Akal Takht Sahib (Timeless Throne Sovereign). Sikh Research Institute recently welcomed representatives from Bhakti Marga Foundation, an international spiritual organization, for a meaningful exchange on preserving and documenting Sikh history. The delegation shared their vision of establishing a museum in #Germany dedicated to the lives and legacies of the Sikh Gurus and Bhagats. During the meeting, Dr. Jaswant Singh recommended several trusted scholarly resources—including Panjab Digital Library (PDL)—and offered guidance on reference works to support their research. Our team also introduced The Guru Granth Sahib Project (TGGSP) and SikhRI's publications. The visitors explored SikhRI's scholarly resources and expressed particular appreciation for our recent publications on Guru Teghbahadar Sahib and Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. They also expressed interest in staying connected for future consultation and collaboration. Conversations like these strengthen global efforts to preserve, study, and share authentic Sikh wisdom for generations to come.
