I usually stick to business here, but I have to share a personal update. My daughter, Madelyn Letendre, just published her latest research in the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, and it’s a topic that hits close to home for anyone in the military or medical communities. As a veteran, I know that some of the hardest challenges we face aren't just physical—they're moral and psychological. Madelyn’s paper based on her studies at Oxford looks at Moral Injury and why some experience "mental defeat" during high-stakes events. It’s about that moment where self-defense mechanisms are exhausted and a person reaches a state of dissociative shutdown. The goal of her work is to help clinicians better understand these "invisible wounds" so they can move beyond standard PTSD treatments and offer more tailored care for warfighters and healthcare professionals. Seeing her use her time at Oxford to tackle issues that affect so many of my friends and colleagues makes me incredibly proud. If you’re interested in her research or of veteran care, it’s a great read.
