S&PAA was proud to be represented by our Care Coordinator, Davy Yue, at the Curesz Foundation Summit 2026, held July 10–11 at the Graduate Hotel in Cincinnati during the organization's Tenth Anniversary Summit. This year's theme, "Bridging the Gap Between Advances in Knowledge and Clinical Practice," brought together leading experts to explore the latest developments in schizophrenia care. The summit featured presentations on innovative and underutilized treatment options, including long-acting injectable medications to help prevent relapse, clozapine for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, VMAT-2 inhibitors for tardive dyskinesia, and promising medications currently in development. The keynote address by Rajiv Tandon, MD, examined the critical gap between advances in schizophrenia research and their implementation in clinical practice. Another important session focused on recognizing the early warning signs of schizophrenia among college students, an age group at increased risk for developing the illness. S&PAA is committed to staying at the forefront of emerging research and evidence-based practices to better serve individuals living with serious mental illness and the families who support them. We appreciate opportunities like the CUREZ Summit that strengthen our knowledge, inspire collaboration, and ultimately help improve outcomes in our communities. Families are often expected to navigate the mental health system without a roadmap. Knowing where to turn, what resources are available, and how to access them can make all the difference. We're pleased to share that Krissa Rouse, MA, LCPC, S&PAA's Director of Programs & Community Engagement, will be joining an outstanding panel of experts for the Crafting Support Project's July Family Webinar, Navigating Mental Health Resources for Families. At the Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance (S&PAA), lived experience is central to how we develop our programs, research, and advocacy. That's why we're partnering with CareLoop Health to help ensure the perspectives of people living with psychosis and their families inform the continued development of CareLoop. In this interview, Krissa Rouse, MA, LCPC, Director of Programs & Community Engagement at S&PAA, shares insights from the front lines of early psychosis care in the United States and reflects on what both organizations learned through our first collaborative work. Last week, leaders from across the mental health community gathered on Capitol Hill for the National Dialogue on Schizophrenia Congressional Briefing to discuss one of the most urgent challenges in healthcare today: improving outcomes for people living with schizophrenia and psychosis. We were proud to announce the launch of the National Collaborative on Schizophrenia—a partnership among Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance, Mental Health America, NAMI, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and American Association for Community Psychiatry. The Collaborative will align organizations around shared policy priorities, identify practical solutions to improve care and support, and advance a coordinated federal and state policy agenda. Initial priorities include expanding access to evidence-based treatment, strengthening support systems for individuals and families, and addressing gaps in housing, justice-system involvement, and long-term recovery. Thank you to Congresswoman Andrea Salinas for speaking at the briefing and to the many individuals with lived experience, family caregivers, clinicians, researchers, advocates, and policymakers who contributed to this important conversation. #NationalDialogueOnSchizophrenia #Schizophrenia #Psychosis #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAdvocacy #BehavioralHealth #PublicPolicy #PatientAdvocacy #LivedExperience #HealthcarePolicy #Recovery

Few psychiatrists have shaped systems of care quite like Dr. Chad Koyanagi. From street psychiatry and crisis response to building innovative services for people experiencing psychosis, homelessness, and serious mental illness, Chad has spent his career serving individuals often overlooked by traditional systems of care. We're proud to share that Chad, a member of S&PAA's Board of Directors, has been recognized with NAMI's 2026 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award, an honor awarded to just 13 psychiatrists nationwide this year. Congratulations, Chad, and thank you for the vision, compassion, and leadership you bring to this field and to our organization. https://lnkd.in/gWr8-S8r #Psychiatry #MentalHealth #Psychosis #Schizophrenia

Over the past six months, we've collaborated on this story, Schizophrenia: How Caregivers Can Find Resilience, to surface the realities families face as they manage the lifecycle of associated challenges. It also features the S&PAA research published this year in JAMA Psychiatry that helps quantify the broader economic impacts of schizophrenia on society. Perhaps most importantly, it includes perspectives from our community, our clinical staff, and members of our Board of Directors who share their experiences with the human impacts of schizophrenia on individuals and families. Read the story here: https://lnkd.in/d65KpKVk Thank you to all contributors and to this author for bringing us into a national conversation reaching millions of older adults and caregivers. #Schizophrenia #Psychosis #Caregivers #MentalHealth #FamilyCaregiving #LivedExperience #PublicHealth
