Sometimes, long nights mean getting to see the sunrise. SPS, along with subcontractor Safespan Platform Systems, installed suspended platforms for MassDOT in Fall River at the Braga bridge. Work on spans 22 and 24 is expected to be completed at the end of this week. Being born and raised in Seattle, I’ve driven over the I-5 Ship Canal bridge countless times. Now, thanks to a partnership between D.H. Charles Engineering, Inc., Guy F. Atkinson Construction, and Safespan Platform Systems, Inc., I have had the chance to walk UNDER the bridge. Over the past 6 months, DHC has performed the first (5) of (36) monthly site walks of the dual Safespan platform hanging from the underside of the Ship Canal bridge in Seattle as a part of the Revive I-5 project. These walks consist of a general conformance review of the platform to the design plans, as well as checking the torque of the main tie-up clips connecting the platform to the bridge steel and the end connections anchored into the concrete piers.
