About us
Passionate about nature, dedicated to saving it. Since we started on our mission in 1889, the threats to nature have continued to grow, but we've grown to meet them too. We’re now the largest nature conservation charity in the UK (although our work stretches far beyond that), consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful new partnerships with other organisations and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves.

Long week? Escape with the Swifts for a little while. High above the rooftops, they arc effortlessly, wheeling and calling through the summer sky, before slipping home beneath the eaves. Breathe. #RSPBNatureBreak 📽️ Nicholas Rodd

Swifts: zoomy, screamy and endlessly impressive. They spend almost their entire lives in the air, are champion multitaskers, take on extraordinary journeys every year, and have wonderfully ridiculous little feet. Naturally, for #SwiftAwarenessWeek, we had to ask: would we hire one?

Nature has long been sidelined in economic policy, despite the fact that we rely on it every day. 👇 👀 The Economic Case for Nature, a new report commissioned by RSPB and undertaken by eftec, shows why investing in nature recovery is an investment in the foundations of our economy. It finds that investing £5-6 billion a year in nature’s recovery could support £80 billion of new economic output over the next decade, create 80,000 long-term jobs and deliver up to £1 trillion in value to society. In short? Investing in nature is an investment in growth, resilience and wider benefits for us all. Read more: https://lnkd.in/enBx76Qu

Wait... was that a...? 👀 Most people know the RSPB for the wildlife found on their doorstep. But our work to protect and restore nature extends further than many people realise. What you spotted was a Sumatran Tiger, living in Hutan Harapan, a precious stretch of rainforest on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. This extraordinary forest is home to 312 species of bird, as well as endangered wildlife including Sun Bears, Malayan Tapirs and Sumatran Tigers. For years, we’ve been working alongside partners and local communities in Hutan Harapan to restore native forest and support the people, livelihoods and biodiversity that rely on this ecosystem. Hutan Harapan still faces significant pressures. But by working together, we can help ensure this remarkable rainforest continues to thrive for generations to come. #WorldRainforestDay

For over a thousand years, the Major Oak has stood at the heart of Sherwood Forest. 🌳 Woven into the legend of Robin Hood and loved by generations of visitors, it has become one of the UK’s most iconic trees. This spring, the Major Oak failed to come into leaf and experts now believe it's at the end of its life, despite tireless efforts to conserve the tree. But this isn’t the end of its story. The tree is entering a new era. Its ancient trunk and branches will continue to provide vital habitat for wildlife and the knowledge gained from caring for this beloved tree will help other ancient trees at Sherwood and beyond. The Major Oak will live on: in the forest it helped shape, the wildlife it continues to support and the countless memories and stories it has become part of. After all, legends never die.
