Stork, Relay Robotics’ newest team member at BayCare Health System’s Winter Haven Women’s Hospital, autonomously carries specimens from the first-floor clinic to the second-floor lab. It isn’t glamorous work, but it matters. It matters at 2 a.m. when the waiting room is full, and every pair of hands needs to be with a patient. Stork completed 18 deliveries in her first two days. Her partner, Miles, is now doing the same at Winter Haven Hospital, where departments without pneumatic tube systems previously relied on clinical staff to run supplies by hand. BayCare deployed its first Relay Robots, Beaker and Hygeia, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in 2025. Big news: BayCare Health System has expanded its Relay Robot fleet, and we couldn’t be prouder to grow alongside them. 🤖 BayCare’s newest robots, Stork and Miles, are now live at Winter Haven Hospital and Winter Haven Women’s Hospital. Stork autonomously transports lab specimens from the 24/7 Urgent Care to the lab—during her first two days on the job, she made 18 deliveries. One nurse said it best: “It’s crazy that today we were so slammed that I don’t know what we would have done without Stork! She took all of our labs upstairs as we managed all of the patients.” That’s exactly what Relay Robots are built to do: show up reliably so care teams can focus on what only humans can do. This deployment builds on BayCare’s 2025 rollout at @St. Anthony’s Hospital, where Beaker and Hygeia now complete 40–60 lab deliveries a day across the ICU, CVICU, and dialysis units, fully autonomously. Lab turnaround time is a critical metric in intensive care. Faster results mean faster clinical decisions. BayCare Health System saw a measurable improvement in turnaround times after deploying a Relay robot in their units—not by adding staff, but by removing the manual transport leg entirely. Beaker, a Relay robot, autonomously delivers specimens from the ICU, CVICU, and dialysis units to the lab, freeing nurses from a task that pulls them away from the bedside dozens of times per shift. "This has really been an improvement in turnaround times, as well as team members being able to stay at patients' bedsides," said Lab Manager Nicole Fisher.
