Multi-stakeholders collaboration for sustainable agriculture in Indonesia
About us
The Partnership for Indonesia’s Sustainable Agriculture (PISAgro) is a non-profit association, which facilitates multi-stakeholders collaboration for sustainable agriculture. PISAgro was initiated by seven private companies in Indonesia, in response to concerns expressed by Indonesian Vice Minister Agriculture and Vice Minister of Trade in World Economic Forum (WEF) Summit held in Jakarta in June 2011. The partnership seeks to provide an innovative, multi-stakeholder model for addressing the nation’s agricultural challenges in a sustainable manner while improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. PISAgro works through 16 Working Groups focused on 11 crops and commodities, and 5 cross-cutting themes.

When we talk about food security, we often look straight at the farm. But true food affordability requires a systems view; one that bridges farmers, logistics, policy, and the consumer. On June 18, 2026, the UID Learning Hub Jakarta was alive with cross-sector energy as we hosted the Philanthropy Sharing Session #62: “Making Healthy Food Affordable from a Policy Perspective,” in close collaboration with Perhimpunan Filantropi Indonesia (PFI), Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS), and PISAgro. This session was a testament to the thriving BEKAL Pemimpin fellows ecosystem. It was an honor to have Insan Syafaat (Executive Director of PISAgro & BEKAL Cohort 1) deliver the opening remarks, and Ibnu Auzia (BEKAL Cohort 1) inject vital ground-level truths into the panel discussion. Highlighting the complexity of our food and land-use systems, five critical realities took center stage: - Systems over Silos: True affordability requires systemic coherence, balancing the needs of farmers, logistics, industry, and consumers rather than favoring just one side. - Addressing Hidden Hunger: True security cannot be measured by calories or rice availability alone; nutrition and accessibility matter. - The Cost of Food Loss & Waste: Systemic inefficiencies drain an estimated IDR 400–500 trillion per year—a massive gap we must close. - The Future of Farming: With a projected shortage of farmers in the next 15–20 years, we must urgently make agriculture a viable, attractive livelihood for the next generation. - Complex problems cannot be solved by one sector alone. It takes tri-sector collaboration—government, business, and civil society—to remodel our food ecosystems for a healthier, more equitable future. Thank you to all our partners and fellows for holding the container for this vital dialogue! #FoodSecurity #PolicyInnovation #SystemsLeadership #BEKALPemimpin #UnitedInDiversity

Concluding the SAFE RTD series, RTD#6—jointly convened with the European Forest Institute (EFI)— presented lessons learnt from EUDR preparedness exercises and conducted “dry runs”. The voluntary simulation was conducted: 💻 Tested due diligence statement in the EU IT system 🌏 The transfer and adequacy of geolocation data 📃 The robustness of operators’ due diligence systems through structured exchanges with EU Competent Authorities. The dialogue reflected insights collated from IT testing, documentation review, risk assessment, traceability to the plot level, and simulated inspections. RTD#6 also facilitates practical experience, promoting a shared understanding of implementation challenges, and encouraging the replication of effective approaches across supply chains and regions. -- The SAFE project helps Indonesia and Malaysia transition to deforestation-free, EUDR-compliant supply chains for palm oil, rubber, and cocoa. A consortium featuring Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA)-Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), Partnership For Indonesia's Sustainable Agriculture (PISAgro), Cocoa Sustainability Partnership (CSP), and Solidaridad Network implemented the effort, providing technical assistance and financial access specifically for smallholder farmers. Through dialogues, field visits, and multistakeholder cooperation, the project tackles traceability and risk challenges—ensuring environmental safeguard is inclusive and economically viable for local producers, helping Indonesia & Malaysia go deforestation-free for palm, rubber, and cocoa.

🌽 Voices from Tambolaka: How Partnership is Transforming the Lives of Corn Farmers During PISAgro’s recent field visit to Project CORN (Creating Business Opportunities and Strengthening Income) in Southwest Sumba, we had the opportunity to hear directly from farmers about their experiences and the changes they have witnessed through the partnership. While each farmer's journey is unique, a common message emerged: access to knowledge, mentoring, quality inputs, and market opportunities has helped strengthen their capacity to farm more productively, improve household livelihoods, and create better prospects for their families. These stories reflect the importance of long-term partnerships that go beyond agricultural production. By investing in farmer knowledge, strengthening local institutions, and building connections across the value chain, collaborative initiatives can help create more resilient and inclusive farming communities. The stories shared by farmers in Tambolaka demonstrate how an Inclusive Closed-Loop approach can translate into tangible outcomes on the ground. By connecting farmers with technical assistance, access to inputs, market linkages, and ongoing support, partnerships can help create enabling conditions for sustainable improvements in productivity, income, and farmer well-being. For PISAgro, farmer voices are essential in understanding the real impact of agricultural partnerships. Beyond project indicators and outputs, these firsthand experiences provide valuable insights into how farmers experience change, what challenges remain, and what enables lasting impact at the community level. These experiences were shared by farmers participating in Project CORN, a multi-stakeholder initiative in Southwest Sumba that brings together private sector actors, development organizations, local enterprises, and farming communities to strengthen sustainable and inclusive corn value chains. We extend our appreciation to the farmers who generously shared their stories and experiences, as well as to the partners behind Project CORN for their commitment to supporting smallholder farmers in Southwest Sumba. 🌽 From Partnership to Impact: Learning from Project CORN in Southwest Sumba From 3–5 June 2026, PISAgro conducted a field visit to Project CORN (Creating Business Opportunities and Strengthening Income) in Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, to learn firsthand how multi-stakeholder collaboration is creating meaningful impact for smallholder farmers. This program is supported by Cargill and jointly initiated by PT Sumber Energi Pangan (SEP) and Save the Children Indonesia. The program has been developed through a multi-stakeholder partnership involving PT SEGER AGRO NUSANTARA, Circle of Imagine Society (CIS Timor) as the implementing partner, Saprotan Utama, Syngenta, Bayer, suppliers and trading partners (Mr. Dominicus Viton), and partner farmers across Southwest Sumba. Together, these partners have helped build an ecosystem that supports farmers through access to inputs, knowledge, markets, and long-term opportunities for growth. Through discussions with Farmer Champions and farming communities, we gained valuable insights into how access to improved farming knowledge, stronger market linkages, and continuous mentoring have contributed to higher productivity, improved household incomes, and greater confidence among farmers to invest in their farms and families. During the visit, PISAgro observed how the partnership has successfully brought together multiple actors across the agricultural ecosystem—from input providers and development organizations to local enterprises and farming communities—to address challenges in a coordinated manner. The active role of Farmer Champions, the structured support system, and the tangible improvements shared by farmers make Project CORN a compelling example of how collaborative partnerships can generate meaningful and lasting impact at the smallholder level. As a platform that promotes the Inclusive Closed-Loop approach, PISAgro values opportunities to learn from and exchange experiences with initiatives that place farmers at the center of agricultural development. The lessons from Project CORN reinforce key principles of the Inclusive Closed-Loop—connecting farmers with access to quality inputs, technical assistance, market opportunities, and long-term support through strong multi-stakeholder collaboration. The initiative serves as a valuable example of how integrated partnerships can contribute to more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural value chains. We extend our appreciation to PT Sumber Energi Pangan (SEP), PT SEGER AGRO NUSANTARA, Cargill, Save the Children Indonesia, Circle of Imagine Society (CIS Timor), Saprotan Utama, Syngenta, Bayer, Farmer Champions, and the farming communities in Southwest Sumba for sharing their experiences and insights. #PISAgro #ProjectCORN #InclusiveClosedLoop #SustainableAgriculture #Partnerships

Regenerative agriculture is no longer just an environmental agenda—it is becoming a strategic pathway to strengthen farmer livelihoods, productivity, and climate resilience. At the Second ASEAN Consultation Workshop and Capacity Building on Regenerative and Resilient Agriculture Systems in Bali, PISAgro shared how Indonesia is advancing regenerative agriculture through its Inclusive Closed-Loop (ICL) Partnership Model, bringing together farmers, government, private sector, NGOs, and researchers to drive practical implementation at scale. Through PISAgro’s Regenerative Agriculture Working Group, our members are working together to: • Build a shared understanding of regenerative agriculture and practical indicators, • Generate evidence and document field-level experiences, • Facilitate collaboration among companies, NGOs, researchers, and government institutions, • Translate lessons from implementation into policy dialogue and broader adoption. As ASEAN develops its regional regenerative agriculture agenda, collaboration, farmer inclusion, and sustainable financing will be critical to turning ambition into impact. #PISAgro #RegenerativeAgriculture #ASEAN #SustainableAgriculture #SmallholderFarmers #Partnerships
