Building a trading network to modernize payment and communication between wholesale sellers and buyers.
About us
Wholesail is a technology startup that builds software to connect wholesalers and their buyers. The company’s first product is an automated invoicing, payment and communication platform that integrates with the accounting systems of wholesale sellers to allow them to get paid faster and decrease losses. For buyers, Wholesail automates the accounts payable process to save them time and money. Wholesail’s initial industry focus is on building a network effect driven payment business in the highly fragmented $1+ trillion US food and beverage distribution market, in which invoicing and payment is nearly entirely manual and paper-driven today. Wholesail was founded by a team of serial entrepreneurs, product managers, engineers and designers who have worked together for nearly a decade. The company is well funded with backing from several venture capital firms and angel investors including early executives and team members from Stripe, Square, Dropbox, Yelp, OpenTable and Everlane. We are looking for highly motivated people to join us on our mission to modernize wholesale trade. If you are passionate about the craft of software engineering or building customer relationships, drop us a line.

I'm pleased to share that Tianshi Zhu has joined Wholesail to build our risk engineering and capital products team from the ground up. He built and ran risk engineering at Airwallex, and spent four years before that on ML infrastructure at Stripe — the rare person who has owned both the platform and the models that run on top of it. What he’s taking on here is a hard problem: improving capital efficiency in B2B trading through risk management. The kind of work that doesn’t fit in a notebook and doesn’t show up in conference talks. Eli Chait, Yu-Shan Fung and I are glad he’s here, and a huge thank you to Yingzhong Xu for introducing us and to Dan Massoni for collaborating with him. He’s building our founding risk team now: machine learning engineers, backend engineers and data analysts. If you’d like to build models that ship and carry consequence, talk to Tianshi. Welcome aboard! ⛵

Food and beverage distributors often extend credit terms without real-time payment data. Wholesail provides buyer-level Risk of Default Scores directly within our platform. Using actual trade payment data, our model analyzes payment trends to identify early signs of default risk before they become a problem. Last week in New York, we brought together limited partners, portfolio executives, and friends of Ten Coves Capital for our 2026 AGM. The conversations throughout the day reinforced what we value most as investors: strong leadership teams, durable businesses, and the exchange of ideas across our network. A special thank you to Colin Ryan for sharing his perspective on today’s market environment, and to the management teams who joined us on stage to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping their businesses, including John Carey from Aquilance, Mark Orttung from Projectworks, and Eli Chait & Corey Reese from Wholesail. We’re grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to such a thoughtful and engaging event. Looking forward to building on the momentum ahead! #GrowthEquity #FinTech #AnnualMeeting

No one can say for sure if a customer will pay. But our predictive model can give you the likelihood that a food and beverage buyer will default. And that helps vendors like you make data-driven decisions about setting payment terms. We help food and beverage vendors reduce payment risk – and grow sales with confidence. Learn about Risk of Default Scores in our latest blog. https://lnkd.in/gtyu9qaK
