This week our Clinical Lead Dietitian, Louise Bula, presented to hundreds of GPs at the Pulse 365 Virtual Event on a question coming up everywhere: how do we make GLP-1s deliver lasting results? Her message was clear - medication alone isn't enough. Pairing GLP-1 medications with evidence-based nutrition and behavioural support is how we help people manage their weight for the long term. Digital tools can make weight-management support easier to access, easier to sustain and more personalised to daily life. When Emily joined Oviva, she was anxious about using the app. But she found it simple to use, helping her stay connected to support, track her progress and recognise changes beyond weight loss alone. Through Oviva’s Tier 3 weight-management programme, Emily has lost 54kg so far, with support from medication alongside structured clinical and behavioural care. Just as importantly, she has built confidence, developed coping strategies and started to believe long-term change is possible. Her experience highlights the role technology can play in delivering personalised support between appointments, helping patients stay engaged and build routines that last. https://lnkd.in/eKk7d_yN

Obesity care needs to support patients beyond medication. Lauren’s story shows why wraparound care matters. Through Oviva’s Tier 3 weight-management programme, she lost 16kg while receiving structured support to better understand her eating habits, emotions, weight and progress. For clinicians, this is a critical part of Oviva's delivery model. Sustainable outcomes depend on more than treatment alone. Patients need regular guidance, behavioural support and practical tools that help them build routines between appointments. https://lnkd.in/e3xqzvQZ

The obesity epidemic costs Europe €60bn a year. Traditional care reaches ~1m patients a year in Europe. 140m adults live with obesity. At Tech Tour Growth Health in Lausanne, our VP Strategy Melanie Schwendimann laid out why digital care is the only way to close that gap, and what it takes to build a true digital health champion in Europe. She also joined the panel "Beyond Fragmentation: Building Digital Health Champions in Europe" alongside EQT Life Sciences, Mindler and YZR Capital, discussing what it takes to scale digital health across a fragmented continent. Fewer than 1% of eligible patients are reached. It's still day one.

The idea of a single mega health AI doing all the heavy lifting - successfully serving both patient and provider - is not a realistic option. The workflows are different. The incentives are different. The trust they require is different. That's the argument I make in my latest Substack post “The Patient Agent-to-Doctor Agent Future of Healthcare”. The answer: Two specialized AIs working together and Germany, with its Digital Health Applications (DiGA) framework, is a great place to build it. Who's positioned to do it, who's not, and what could go wrong: Link in the first comment ⤵️ As always, thoughts are very welcome.

Obesity is one of the biggest drivers of long-term health conditions that affect patients’ quality of life and place huge pressure on frontline health services. For Michelle, the trigger was a routine health check where she was told she had high blood pressure. She knew she needed support, but not another list of foods to eat or avoid. She needed help managing appetite, building routine and making changes that could last. After joining Oviva, Michelle lost over 6 stone and saw a significant improvement in her blood pressure. She also gained more energy, better mobility and renewed confidence in daily life. Her story shows what effective weight-management support can achieve when it combines clinical oversight, behavioural support and digital tools. By supporting patients remotely and helping them manage their health between appointments, Oviva’s model improves outcomes without increasing demand on the NHS. Read Michelle’s story below. https://lnkd.in/ejV87yHV

Was bewegt uns? Was lernen wir gerade? 👋

Obesity is a central issue to any serious conversation about long-term conditions. This week Khalima Khan and Jason Parker joined the Long Term Conditions Forum in London to discuss how eligible patients can be supported through holistic care approaches, including the evolving role of GLP-1 therapies in improving health outcomes. The conversations reinforced the need for practical, scalable approaches that help healthcare professionals manage the growing burden of obesity-related conditions. Combining medication with wraparound care can support patients more effectively, improve long-term outcomes and help reduce pressure across the system.
