This year marks 75 years of Hancock Field Station. For many children, a week at camp opens a door to the unknown. New landscapes. New friendships. New questions. At OMSI, we call that expansion curiosity. This spring, former campers and counselors returned to the high desert with their families to reflect on how Camp Hancock shaped their lives, while a new group of students experienced it for the very first time. Read how one remarkable week captured the lasting impact of 75 years at Camp Hancock. → https://lnkd.in/gZeAA5xt #OMSI #CampHancock #HancockFieldStation #OutdoorEducation #75Years

There are small icons surrounding in leaves including a rabbit, flower, a moon and stars, a footprint, and a silhouette of a bird.
    • Black text on a purple background that reads, "There is just so much learning that can happen when you're taken out of a place you're familiar with." This is a quote from Alysia Downs, Hancock Field Station Manager with OMSI.
    • Black text on an orange background reads, "3000+ campers a year". Below the text is an image of campers from Eddyville Charter School playing a camp game with a camp counselor.
    • Two images on a blue background, both being vintage. The top is of former campers and camp counselors at Camp Hancock sitting on a hill holding shovels and posing for a picture, and the bottom is of an old OMSI school bus.

Curiosity Unbound 🚀 On May 2, our supporters came together for the 2026 OMSI Gala in Turbine Hall. We gathered to celebrate the power of science, curiosity, and access, and to affirm that discovery should never be bound by age, income, background, or circumstance. Throughout the evening, we reflected on what it means to live with curiosity unbound. To ask the big questions. To create spaces where people feel empowered to explore, experiment, and imagine. From regional educators visiting schools across the state, to camps programs that have connected people to outdoor science experiences for generations, the evening celebrated OMSI’s impact across all 36 counties of Oregon and our role as a vital civic resource for lifelong learning. Thank you to our incredible emcee and board member, Kimberly Chexnayder, and to Paul Lumley of the Native American Youth and Family Center for helping shape an evening grounded in community, storytelling, and regional impact. We are grateful to our Gala Co-Chairs, supporters, volunteers, educators, staff, and everyone who brought Curiosity Unbound to life. Special thanks to our Presenting Sponsors, Vernier Science Education, the MARCIA H RANDALL FOUNDATION, and Jordan Schnitzer / the HAROLD & ARLENE SCHNITZER CARE FOUNDATION, and to Toni Stevens / LEUPOLD & STEVENS FOUNDATION in memory of John C. Stevens for helping make this evening possible.
