Ok. Despite this mini-trend, it’s probably going to remain pretty rare that a philosophy degree gets you a job with the title of “philosopher.” But it will prepare you really well for a job in knowledge work. The truth is that studying the humanities remains the best available way to develop the skills of reading carefully, writing persuasively, evaluating evidence, and building and defending arguments. The need for those skills will never go away, even if parts of those processes can be assisted by AI tools. In fact, as AI becomes highly integrated into all kinds of work, those skills will be increasingly needed to get useful, accurate outputs from it. So study philosophy, history, literature. Yes, it’s more likely you’ll be tying a tie in the morning than a toga. But maybe it’ll fly on casual Friday? https://lnkd.in/gnyM-VYE

Our Community of Practice for Community College Humanities Professionals had an outrageously good time on their visit to the Princeton University Art Museum this week! 🎨 We got an incredible highlights tour from Curator of Teaching and Learning, Veronica M. White, who was full of ideas for how to connect humanities disciplines to the objects and stories explored in the museum. These kinds of outings with colleagues and peers from throughout the state make this COP so rewarding and fun. BUT they're members-only. (Psst...it's free to be a member. Just register at https://lnkd.in/eTp5jhxt!)

Running a local newsroom in 2026 wears on you. Then a reader tells you why you matter, or a friend in the business gets you fired up, and you find a way to keep going. On July 1, we're getting a room full of those people together at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Lunch and networking start at 11. At 1, Kenny Katzgrau of redbankgreen and Broadstreet walks through how to build a local news outlet that can stand for 100 years. It's for publishers, editors, reporters, revenue leads and founders. Tickets are $5. https://lnkd.in/ePZ_mJQy
