Everyone is arguing over which LLM is the "best." But recent data from Databricks proves that we're focusing on the wrong thing entirely. Databricks recently benchmarked coding agents across their multi-million line codebase. Their biggest takeaway was that top-tier performance isn't just about picking the right model, it's about the harness - the architecture, prompting and tooling that surrounds it. They found that harness choice dramatically impacts both the quality of output and the real-world cost (proving token pricing alone is a poor metric). We’ve been seeing this exact dynamic in our own work, which is why our CTO, Nigel Garner has recently written about this shift on Think Nimble. In his blog, Nigel argues that the model is merely a component. The real product and the thing that determines whether an AI initiative succeeds or fails is the architecture you build around it. Raw model intelligence is becoming commoditised; the harness is where you create competitive advantage. It’s great to see this validated at the scale of Databricks' engineering teams. At Nimble Approach, we believe that building a stronger tech community means investing in the people who'll shape its future. That's why we were delighted to support Manchester Digital's T Connect programme, giving local T Level students the opportunity to experience what it's really like to work in a modern software delivery team. Over the course of the programme, our team - Dan Jones, Emily Birley, James Whiteley and Hasib🧙🏼 Ahmed - volunteered their time to mentor student teams, answering questions, sharing their experience and helping students develop the agile, collaboration and project management skills they'll use throughout their careers. We also had the opportunity to join the students' final presentations, providing technical feedback in a setting designed to reflect real stakeholder reviews. It was fantastic to see the creativity, enthusiasm and progress each team had made throughout the project. The biggest reward was hearing directly from the students about the impact the mentoring had. One comment that really stood out was: 💬 "Having technical mentors available decreased the amount of time I was stuck on something." Knowing our support helped students build confidence, overcome challenges and gain a better understanding of how software teams work made the experience incredibly rewarding. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the programme such a success, especially the organisers for creating opportunities that connect education with industry. Programmes like T Connect help young people build valuable experience, confidence and professional networks before they begin their careers.
