Is your community ready to accelerate its shared ownership or community wealth-building strategy? Join us this September for LEAP St. Paul, a five-day program where leaders travel to St. Paul to meet with the organizations, practitioners, and community leaders advancing some of the country's most innovative shared ownership models. Through site visits, masterclasses, and strategy sessions, you'll leave insights and an implementation roadmap tailored to your community. We're excited to announce some of the organizations and leaders you'll learn from, including Mayor Kaohly Her, Nexus Community Partners, the North Star Black Cooperative Fellowship, the McKnight Foundation, the City of Saint Paul's Office of Financial Empowerment, Terra Firma Cooperative, and more. • 🗣️ IT’S THE FINAL WEEK TO APPLY FOR THE 2026 OPEN ROAD FUND (ORF)! ORF distributes $50,000 wealth-building gifts to Black descendants of the Transatlantic Slave Trade (14 and older) in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. These gifts are not reparations, but an opportunity to redistribute resources to our communities to build Black wealth. If you haven’t yet submitted your application, we want you to know something: You are worthy of this opportunity. Who you are, as you are, is enough. We may not know one another, but you are our people. City blocks or hundreds of miles may separate us, but we are part of the same community. We want you to be successful in all your endeavors, including this application. We want you to be successful in your journey to build wealth. And we want you to be successful in any project you join to create economic justice for Black people. May this be only one of many opportunities ahead of you. 🤎 Applications close this Sunday, July 19, at 11:59 pm CT. Learn more and apply at https://lnkd.in/gdg-M-qC

  • Hey, East Saint Paulers—our friends at East Side Community Investment Cooperative (ESCIC) are hosting Co-ops & Coffee this month! ESCIC is a grassroots coalition of neighbors and organizers working to preserve and shape the future of our community through collective ownership, democratic decision-making, and local investment. In a time when outside developers often dictate the fate of our neighborhoods, ESCIC empowers East Siders to take the lead—securing sites for housing, businesses, and cultural spaces that reflect our values and meet our needs. Stop by one of their coffee convos to learn more!

  • This 4th of July, which falls on International Day of Cooperatives, marks our country’s 250th anniversary. Today coinciding with Co-op Day is the perfect representation of the future we want to see: one with true liberation, cooperation, abundance, joy, and freedom for all. There's a reason two of Nexus' programs are focused on co-ops: Cooperatives are a model for building wealth for the sake of people, not profits. Through collective investment, joint decision-making, and profit sharing, co-ops are a powerful tool for breaking through the exploitative status quo in which white supremacy and economic violence against folks of color are by design. In the face of systemic harm, extraction, and exclusion, our people have survived by building together and putting community first. Today and every day, we’re celebrating the Black, Indigenous, and communities of color who have been living and working cooperatively for generations—and for the next 250 years to come.
