Today marks a significant milestone for the Red Chris Block Cave project, as we welcome the Province of British Columbia’s approval of key regulatory authorizations. This important step advances the project toward a final investment decision later this year. These approvals enable the transition of our Red Chris Mine from open-pit operations to block caving, with the potential to extend mine life into the mid-2040s and unlock the long-term value of this world-class mineral resource. Achieved through a consent-based process with the Tahltan Nation, this milestone reflects our shared commitment to responsible resource development, Indigenous partnership and creating lasting opportunities in northwest British Columbia. A major milestone from last year was the opening of the Ahafo North Mine in Ghana. The opening brought our team together with national and traditional leaders, reflecting the strong partnerships and collaboration that helped bring the mine to fruition and underscoring the important role partnerships play in our approach to responsible mining. During its 13-year mine life, Ahafo North is expected to produce 275,000–325,000 ounces of gold annually, supporting local infrastructure, regional economies, and creating long-term value. The places where Newmont operates are rich in biodiversity, and protecting those ecosystems is part of responsible mining. On the International Day for Biological Diversity, we are highlighting three 2025 examples of this work in action: 🔬 Suriname (Merian): Environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling identified 75 fish species through non-invasive water testing, compared with 41 identified through conventional surveys. 🌿 Peru (Yanacocha): Our team partnered with Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia to develop propagation protocols for three native plant species identified as key biodiversity values at the site. 🦜 Australia (Boddington): Ongoing monitoring of nesting structures for the endangered black cockatoo across a 190-hectare protected conservation area. At our Yanacocha site, construction of two modern water treatment facilities is underway to support long-term operational and closure planning at the site and in surrounding communities. The project, with an estimated cost of $1.8 billion, will replace five existing plants, expanding treatment capacity, supporting the safe return of water to the environment, and strengthening our long-term commitment to environmental stewardship. About 1,900 active local and local-local employees are currently supporting this project that is expected to be completed next year. Our Chief Executive Natascha Viljoen joined Lawson Winder at the Bank of America Metals & Mining Conference in Miami for a conversation on Newmont’s strategy and operational performance. The discussion focused on the transformation of Newmont into a more focused and resilient business through portfolio optimization and rationalization, and continued cost and productivity initiatives designed to strengthen operational consistency across the company’s world-class portfolio. Natascha also highlighted our record Q1 2026 free cash flow performance of $3.1bn, the importance of safety through the continued rollout of the Always Safe program, and how Newmont’s disciplined capital allocation framework is designed to support sustained shareholder value while maintaining a strong and flexible balance sheet.
