Four in five people who die by suicide saw a healthcare provider in the year before their death. The evidence-based practices to prevent this exist. What's missing is implementation at scale. In a new blog post, we explore research from Four Pines Fund on what effective suicide care actually requires, and how technology is helping health systems close the gap between what we know works and what happens in practice. Our colleagues Jeremy Kreyling and Matt Miclette were in Madison, WI this week for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) EVIDENT kickoff. NeuroFlow joins 23 teams building the data repository that will give researchers the objective, continuous measurement tools they need to prove both the speed and durability of treatments like psychedelics and TMS. Think about how continuous glucose monitoring changed diabetes care. EVIDENT aims to do the same for behavioral health outcomes. NeuroFlow brings the population-level reference framework to that effort: real-world behavioral health data at scale that controlled trials simply cannot replicate. Getting treatments to patients faster starts with knowing, objectively and at scale, that they work. We're excited to start this critical work!

New, rapid-acting mental health treatments show real promise. But without objective, validated endpoints to measure their effectiveness, they can't clear the regulatory bar to reach patients at scale. That's the problem ARPA-H's EVIDENT program is designed to solve, and NeuroFlow is one of the research teams supporting this work. Our CEO Christopher Molaro sat down with Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to talk about our role in this $139 million initiative and what it means for the future of behavioral health care. Watch the 2-minute video to hear Chris describe how NeuroFlow identifies behavioral health needs at the population level and helps care teams act sooner: https://lnkd.in/ekB-GQsQ #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #EVIDENT #ARPAH

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is setting a new standard for behavioral health. We're proud to partner with their team as they build a smarter, more connected model of care. In a recent HealthLeaders interview, VP of Integrative Services Julia Orlando shared how Bergen New Bridge adopted the NeuroFlow platform to enable real-time symptom tracking and patient self-reporting between visits. The results speak for themselves. Bergen went from a 5.8% behavioral health screening rate to 81.6% in just 8 months. Is your #health system or hospital struggling to provide behavioral health services in a sustainable way? Find out how Bergen High Bridge Medical Center has boosted behavioral services from the hospital's vice president of integrative services, Julia Orlando. Technology adoption has been essential to improving mental health services at the medical center, with technology tools making mental health care more connected, proactive, and patient-centered, Orlando explains. To make mental health care more connected with technology, the medical center has concentrated on continuous engagement with patients who have mental health conditions. For example, the medical center has adopted the NeuroFlow platform, which enables real-time symptom tracking and patient self-reporting between visits. Optimization of mental health services was a primary consideration in a recent expansion of the medical center's emergency department, which now features 29 rooms designed specifically for mental health patients. Some of these rooms are designed for children, seniors, and patients who are neurodivergent. The medical center also has improved mental health care by taking an approach to screening that is rooted in early identification, accessibility, and integration into everyday care. "Sustainability in behavioral health is not about doing less. It is about providing services in a smarter way," Orlando says. Read the full HealthLeaders story at https://lnkd.in/eFERCYza

Can behavioral health organizations safely screen for suicide risk outside the clinic through digital, asynchronous screening? NeuroFlow conducted a first-of-its-kind study to find out. The peer-reviewed research, published in a Springer Nature journal, reported several positive indicators: * Remote screening surfaced risk that in-person care missed entirely * Across nine organizations and five care settings, no harmful outcomes from remote suicide screening were reported * 80% of providers reported that they were supportive of remote asynchronous suicide screening The study introduces two practical frameworks to help organizations plan and sustain implementation of remote screening, mapped to care context and stage. NeuroFlow has been named one of ARPA-H's first research teams for the EVIDENT initiative, a $139M federal investment to transform how we measure and validate behavioral health treatments. Our role: building the population-scale framework to evaluate rapid-acting behavioral health interventions against real-world care baselines. Consistent, objective measurement at scale is exactly what this field has been missing. We'll share more details about our role in the coming weeks. Most behavioral health needs surface in primary care — but PCPs aren't trained to identify and manage these conditions. The result? Hidden behavioral health risk goes untreated, health systems become overwhelmed, and patients receive wrong level of care or no care at all until they reach crisis. This 7-min #HIMSSCast episode breaks down how NeuroFlow is changing that. We provide the context providers need to understand patients' unique needs and what level of care is appropriate. Thank you Jessica Hagen and HIMSS Media for featuring our work! #behavioralhealth #populationhealth #technology #innovation https://lnkd.in/eEFGqT3q

Be sure to join our CMO Tom Zaubler, MD, MPH tomorrow for an American Psychiatric Association webinar on asynchronous depressions screening. Dr. Zaubler, J. Nathan Copeland, MD Lisa Rosenthal, MD and Rachel Weir will discuss: - How asynchronous depression screening can advanced measurement-informed care - Key technologies that can enable this screening at scale and improve connection to appropriate behavioral health care - Important workflows to implement to ensure high-risk patients who indicate suicidal thoughts receive timely support. Register for the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/e88t5mST
Please join me and Drs. J. Nathan Copeland, MD, Lisa Rosenthal, MD and Rachel Weir in an American Psychiatric Association webinar on asynchronous depression screening: Date and Time: Thursday, April 16, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm ET. Title: Implementation of Asynchronous Depression Screening and Safety Protocols for Psychiatrists Description: Join us on Thursday, April 16th at 12:00 pm for a webinar about asynchronous depression screening for psychiatrists. Asynchronous depression screening, where a patient completes a validated depression questionnaire before or after an appointment, has become more common in health care with electronic health records and virtual tools allowing for implementation. Multiple advantages to asynchronous depression screening have been identified including increased depression screening rates, reduced burden in clinic to complete forms, and enhanced accuracy of reported depressive symptoms. However, workflows that connect depressed patients to appropriate care must be established, predicting staffing needs can be challenging, and ensuring safety among patients that report suicidal thoughts requires prompt attention. In this session we will hear from two presenters on how health systems have implemented this measurement-informed care process and one presenter on how behavioral health technology can facilitate this work using real-time data collection and safety interventions. Learning objectives: Evaluate why a program may implement asynchronous depression screening. Consider the resources and changes to workflow that are needed to support the implementation of asynchronous depression screening. Identify best practices to support patients who asynchronously report suicidal thoughts. CME: One hour Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/emcSa8MC

A primary care physician documented worsening anxiety. A pharmacy record showed a lapsed refill. A psychiatrist had a treatment plan on file. None of those systems talked to each other. The patient arrived in crisis. Clinicians started from scratch. That's the reality Matt Miclette, MPH, RN — NeuroFlow's VP of Innovation & Policy — witnessed firsthand as a charge nurse on an inpatient psychiatric unit. And it's the reality he argues AI could fix, but only if behavioral health is explicitly included in the policy frameworks being built right now. His latest piece for Health Data Management is a must-read for anyone thinking about the future of AI in healthcare. #AI #behavioralhealth #healthcarepolicy #policy
AI can help behavioral health teams identify risk earlier and support better decisions, but Matt Miclette argues that without policy support for interoperability, infrastructure and payment reform, the technology will simply inherit the same gaps that failed patients before. https://lnkd.in/eZYGW_dp #HealthDataManagement #BehavioralHealth #AIinHealthcare #Interoperability #HealthPolicy
