At MWH and Methuen Construction Company, Inc., safety begins on day one and remains a priority throughout every employee’s career. We held another Safety Bootcamp 2.0, led by members of our Safety Committee. The day began with blueprint reading led by Michael Lawton, followed by a session on grade and layout led by Mike Bouffard. Participants then rotated through three hands-on training stations. At the first station, led by Matt Rousseau, employees worked with carpentry tools and job-built ladders, learning how to properly and safely use the tools while correctly assembling ladders. The second station, led by Matt Gonya, focused on pipefitting, where employees used various tools to assemble a pipe system mockup. The final station involved using an excavator along with hand digging techniques to safely locate an underground pipe and perform repairs. This training serves as a supplement to our Safety Bootcamp 1.0, reinforcing our commitment to preparing employees for the field and setting them up for long-term success. #Safety #TeamMWH

Why do we sometimes encase electrical conduit in concrete? On water and wastewater projects, electrical systems are frequently routed underground—right where they’re exposed to heavy equipment, soil movement, vibration, moisture, and future excavation activity. Concrete encasement adds a layer of protection that helps those conduit runs survive the long haul: ⚡ Protect the wiring from physical damage ⚡ Environmental exposure ⚡Future excavation ⚡Electrical code requirements in certain situations. 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬, 𝐃𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬: A duct bank is an engineered underground structure that houses multiple conduits, typically made of PVC or other durable materials, and encases them in concrete for protection. Unlike direct burial of cables, duct banks provide a structured pathway that shields cables from moisture, soil movement, mechanical damage, and temperature extremes, ensuring long-term reliability and safety for electrical and communication systems. They are commonly used beneath roads, sidewalks, building foundations, data centers, hospitals, and industrial facilities In treatment plants and utility infrastructure, losing power or controls isn’t a minor inconvenience. These systems keep pumps running, instrumentation reporting, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) communicating, and treatment processes operating safely. OSHA’s approach to preventing heat illness goes beyond hydration. It’s about planning ahead, training smart, and recognizing risks before they escalate: 1️⃣Plan for Emergencies: Create a heat response plan tailored to your worksite. Know who to call, where to go, and how to cool someone down fast. 2️⃣Train Everyone: Educate workers and supervisors on heat illness symptoms, emergency procedures, and how to use cooling gear effectively. 3️⃣Recognize the Warning Signs- Watch for dizziness, confusion, heavy sweating, or nausea. Early action can prevent serious illness. 4️⃣Encourage Reporting & Support: Make it easy for workers to speak up. Use buddy systems and regular check-ins to keep everyone safe. 5️⃣Understand the Risks: Know what contributes to heat stress—like humidity, physical exertion, and personal health factors.
