🍒 Michigan-made, from tart to finish Cherry Republic headquartered in Leelanau County has turned Montmorency tart cherries into 200+ delicious products. Founded in 1989, the company now supports 500+ team members across six retail locations and a distribution center, all the while showcasing the quality and passion of Michigan agriculture. With support from a $150,000 MDARD Food and Agriculture Investment Program (FAIP) grant, Cherry Republic completed a $4 million expansion of its Empire fulfillment and distribution center adding 16,000 sq. ft. of storage, two new loading docks, and 20 new full‑time jobs. The upgrade is already streamlining logistics, removing operational bottlenecks, and helping connect more customers to Michigan-grown cherries. “Working with MDARD has been very smooth and streamlined… they make it incredibly easy for us, and that level of support has made a real difference,” said founder and president Bob Sutherland. In its 35th year, Cherry Republic remains deeply committed to the farmers and farmland behind every tart cherry rooted in innovation, quality, and Michigan pride.

Yesterday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency for Antrim, Cheboygan, and Emmet counties after an extreme rainfall event caused widespread flooding, severely damaged roads and infrastructure, and exhausted local response capabilities. "I am declaring a State of Emergency for the communities of Antrim, Cheboygan, and Emmet counties, that faced severe rainfall and flooding on June 29," said Governor Whitmer. “The state of Michigan is coordinating with the federal and local governments to deliver critical resources and financial assistance to families, local businesses, and communities as they recover. Extreme weather has left an impact on communities across Michigan this year, but Michiganders are resilient. We will continue to work together and support one another through this recovery." By declaring a state of emergency, Governor Whitmer has made available all state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts. The declaration authorizes the Michigan State Police, MSP Emergency Management & Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) to coordinate state efforts above and beyond what MSP/EMHSD has already been doing in conjunction with local agencies. Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer celebrated Michigan’s No. 6 ranking from CNBC’s America’s Top States for Business, earning a Top 10 ranking for a fifth time under Governor Whitmer’s leadership and representing a massive leap from No. 24 at the start of her administration in 2019. “Michigan is a place where everyone can succeed,” said Governor Whitmer. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done to make this ranking possible, such as creating jobs, bringing advanced manufacturing home, preparing our workforce, and lowering costs. This national recognition is a sign that Michigan is on the move, and when people do business here, they win big. Let’s keep rolling up our sleeves and getting things done for every Michigander.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/gXMwkbSU.
