🛑 ANNOUNCEMENT 🛑 It's been one hell-of-a ride getting here, and I couldn't be more excited for what comes next. Today I officially launch Innovative EcoSystems site: https://lnkd.in/grguCt_N - an attempt to help bring the world closer, remove unnecessary barriers, and lift people, ideas, and regions up. An attempt to "SOUND THE ALARM" that society is headed in the wrong direction, and we're focused on all the wrong sh**. This idea didn't come naturally, it was a slow boil over the last 15 years... Only after multiple failures, handful of successes, hundreds of events, thousands of decks and pitches, hundreds of meetings with city leaders, capital providers, innovators, corporations, and thousands of hours of research, bundled up running like a washing machine in my ADHD brain, was I able to fully appreciate why this is so needed, and how I can have a positive impact on the world. I would not be doing what I'm doing today without the first person who inspired me to pursue entrepreneurship, showed me what it meant to be kind, lead with empathy, take calculated risks, have incredible work ethic, and remember when all else fails your family will always be there to shine a light through your darkest moments. Thanks Joe Z. "pops", you'll always be my hero.

🚨 Countries, Regions, Cities listen up. If your economic strategy doesn’t include building a high-performance startup ecosystem, you’re not just behind, you’re actively falling further behind. Startups aren’t just “nice-to-have”, they’re the economic engine. From 1980 to 2005, nearly all net new jobs in the U.S. came from companies under five years old. Not corporations, not “small businesses”, 👉 STARTUPS 👈 This white paper makes it painfully clear: To grow GDP, attract capital, retain top talent, and compete globally, cities must treat startup ecosystem development as a strategic imperative, not a marketing slogan. So what does that actually require? 📍 Capital markets that reward innovation 📍 Founder pipelines built around merit, not politics 📍 Regulatory agility (see: Estonia, Singapore, Puglia) 📍 Talent density from universities, bootcamps, and real-world training 📍 A team of ecosystem operators who know how to build WITH founders, not just talk about it (I see this WAY too often) Here’s the truth: Economic development without a startup strategy is just maintenance. And unfortunately maintenance doesn’t win in a globally competitive innovation race. 💡 Want the playbook? Comment "Playbook" and I'll send it to ya. The Startup Imperative doc is a great start. What are your thoughts? #StartupEconomist #InnovativeEcosystems #StartupEcosystem #Startups #EconomicDevelopment

In today’s global economy, cities without vibrant startup ecosystems aren’t just falling behind, they’re opting out of the future. At Innovative Ecosystems, we believe cities must act with urgency and precision to build high-performance innovation ecosystems. Startups aren’t just small businesses, they’re the engine of job creation, productivity, and innovation. Research from Kauffman, Brookings, and NBER confirms it: cities with more startup activity see faster wage growth, higher productivity, and stronger GDP. But thriving ecosystems don’t happen by chance they happen by design. They require: ✅ Access to Capital ✅ Talent Density ✅ Strategic Infrastructure ✅ Smart Policy From Medellín’s transformation through Ruta N to Estonia’s e-residency framework, the blueprint is proven. 🛑 We’re calling on civic leaders, policymakers, and economic developers 🛑 🧩 Assemble your ecosystem dream team. 🎯 Align resources around venture-scale startups. ⚙️ Build agile, responsive governance. HUGE Thank you to Paul O'Brien aka "The Startup Economist" for helping put this together. #InnovativeEcoSystems #StartupEconomist #StartupEcosystems #EconomicDevelopment #InnovationPolicy #SmartCities #VentureCapital #TechForGood #PublicPrivatePartnerships

A heartfelt thank you to the beautiful and visionary region of #Puglia for an unforgettable journey into the heart of Southern Italy’s #innovation and #investment future. From #Lecce to #Bari, what I witnessed was a region not just preparing for the future, but actively building it. THANK YOU to the leaders who welcomed me with vision and hospitality: ⭐️ Marko Boskovic for connecting me with Puglia! ⭐️ Lino Manosperta + Paolo D'Addabbo for helping make this trip happen and promoting and developing the innovation and cultural initiatives. ⭐️ Gianna Elisa Berlingerio, General Director of Economic Development, for driving forward your inspiring vision for the future of Puglia. ⭐️ Patrizio Guido Altieri, for helping bridge the gap between research and startups at BINP - Boosting Innovation in Poliba ⭐️ Vito Giuliano Minafra, for providing an incredible space to help early stage tech founders thrive at SPRINTX ⭐️ Giusy Ottonelli + Ilaria Seguino, for helping artists express themselves and sell their work at Spazio Murat - Puglia Design Store ⭐️ BionIT Labs on path to become a Puglia 🦄 ⭐️ Raffaella Ferreri, Vanessa Coppola, Salvatore Modeo, for running the incredible The Qube Incubator helping early stage founders navigate the difficult task of starting up and launching ⭐️ Gaia Verga, Paolo D'Addabbo, TIZIANA LAURENZA, and the incredible team at ARTI Puglia helping drive awareness and opportunity to the region ⭐️ Guiseppe for being the best translator anyone could ask for! What I saw in #Puglia is not just potential it's momentum; it's a carefully crafted plan for growth that prioritizes culture over capitalism. Despite its immense potential, Puglia currently attracts less than 1% of Italy’s total Foreign Direct Investment, a figure far below its share of national GDP and export value. Yet the statistics tell a more optimistic story: 1️⃣ Over €400 million in new industrial investments have flowed into Puglia in the last cycle alone, with more than 60% driven by foreign companies. 2️⃣ Puglia’s Single Special Economic Zone (SEZ), now covering all of Southern Italy, unlocks up to 60% tax credits for small businesses and up to €100 million per investment, plus streamlined permits and customs advantages. 3️⃣ The region boasts over 14,000 university graduates each year, an integrated network of 6 regional technology clusters, and ranks first in Southern Italy for patent applications and spin-offs. 4️⃣ Puglia’s renewable energy push is backed by EU Just Transition Funds and the NRRP, with Taranto alone receiving over €380 million to lead Europe’s green re-industrialization. 5️⃣ Its strategic ports (Taranto, Bari, Brindisi) and four airports make it a critical node for European, Balkan, and Mediterranean trade. To those across the U.S. and EU looking for the next frontier of innovation, sustainable industry, and investment, look to Puglia. I'm honored to be a small part of the journey and committed to supporting its future. ❤️ #innovativeecosystems

Cultural Capital is the Engine By Catherine Hudon Cultural is an undervalued asset class. It moves people before money does. We’re living in a time where creators, communities, and movements shape economies, yet their contributions remain largely invisible in traditional models of value. I’ve seen it firsthand: a niche fashion moment becomes the blueprint for a global campaign. A look born in the margins ends up in ad agency boardrooms, while the originators rarely see the platform or the payout. I witnessed this up close while negotiating these very deals as an exec producer for integrated campaigns inside creative agencies. I’ve spent much of my career working with culture as content and infrastructure. I’ve watched the industry take from the vibes. Artists and culture workers are over-relied on, underpaid, and often uncredited. Their influence is everywhere, but their names are forgotten or never mentioned. Through We Are Shorty and now with Aurem Art, we’re building systems where cultural capital is finally accounted for. Our work lives at the intersection of culture, code and capital, no To elevate creativity, and to reframe it as a source of sovereignty, circulation, and systemic rebalancing. We’re trying to cultivate culture and not to extract it. This requires real infrastructure: innovative tools, equitable contracts, and compelling narratives that carry us forward. Aurem is a platform and a vault, a cultural treasury, a living archive designed to protect, value, and circulate the energy creators bring into the world. We work with visionary artists, iconic IP, and the next wave of cultural engineers to build regenerative economies rooted in story and soul. This looks like turning Chicago Fashion Week into global infrastructure. Creating digital vaults where creators store and share value on their terms. Blockchain is an infrastructure. It lets us trace, reward, and protect cultural contributions. It’s how we move from “cool-hunting” to co-creating. From extraction to circulation. That underground rave, visual artist? That DIY fashion show? That's the innovation lab and the future. These cultural scenes are seeding the next global movements, and we’re here to hold and elevate them. Cultural capital is the reason brands elevate, tech goes viral, and communities form across oceans. It’s the pulse underneath the product. But if we don’t build infrastructure to honor it, we’re just replaying the same extractive loop. We don’t need any more hype. What we need is continuity. We need containers that protect the source while expanding reach. Cultural capital isn’t soft. It’s the engine. And we are hell-bent on making sure it runs at full power. If this resonates, and you're building, investing in, or championing the future of culture, let’s connect.
