    What does it take to build a quantum computer? Beyond the gold, and the copper, and the helium-3, and the niobium, you need really exceptional people. Kelly Schilling is a quantum technician at Maybell. She builds systems that get 500x colder than deep space. She is also a musician – the lead singer of Dreadnaught, with an impressive solo career – a filmmaker, and one of the creative forces behind Fire in the Mountains, a festival on the edge of Glacier National Park, hosted in partnership with the Firekeeper Alliance and Blackfeet Nation in Montana. Kelly is exceptional, but not an exception at Maybell. Musicians and artists make up a huge proportion of our team. In a dilution refrigerator, the margin between insight and failure is measured in less energy than a single flap of a butterfly's wings. A person who hears one flat string in an orchestra, who plays one measure four hundred times to get the four hundred and first right, who holds a whole arrangement in their head while their hands stay exact – that is a person you want building your fridge. Beyond our musicians, we have champion glider pilots, the world's foremost laser artist, world-class cyclists, lizard breeders, dozens and dozens of others who have applied passion and precision to become masters of their art. They are together at Maybell to build a better tomorrow. I say this often and I mean it literally: people are mean to other people, and quantum can’t fix that. But as for almost every other major challenge we face? Quantum has a reach shot at solving it. That's why we build. So while no amount of compute will automatically fix human cruelty, what we can do to fix that is put people together in front of something overwhelming, something that touches their soul, something that reminds them of our shared humanity. Art does that work. Music does that work. A dark night in the mountains staring at a sky of stars does that work. Which brings me back to Fire in the Mountains. The Firekeeper Alliance is a nonprofit formed by and with Tribal Members. They preserve and celebrate indigenous cultural heritage and use it as a tool to confront the youth suicide epidemic on the Blackfeet Nation. They make sure that young members of the Blackfeet Nation find purpose, friendship, and passion as they help make Fire in the Mountains a reality. We are proud to support people like Kelly, and organizations like the Firekeeper Alliance, by sponsoring Fire in the Mountains this year, July 23-26.   • It was an honor to join IBM, Boeing, and IonQ as the industry representatives at the The White House Summit on American Quantum Innovation yesterday. America's early bets on quantum are paying off. The National Quantum Initiative helped build an ecosystem that now spans national labs, universities, and a fast-growing industry creating real jobs across the country. American leadership in quantum technology is vital to the future of our nation, but also benefits the whole world. The lasers, fabs, and cryogenic systems needed to make quantum systems work are the successors of the American innovation philosophy that created classical computing and built global hubs like silicon valley. Companies like Vescent, IBM, IonQ, Maybell Quantum, and others across the industry are laying the quantum foundations today and - if innovation is effectively supported - America is positioned to also lead the next era. A stable, secure future depends on America getting quantum right, because if we don't lead here, the world doesn't get a safer alternative. It gets a worse one. So grateful to OSTP and the Administration for making American quantum leadership a national priority, and for the chance to be part of the conversation. The vision is set.   • We are thrilled to announce that Maybell is partnering with QuantWare to support the scaled production and operation of their VIO-40K processor stack using ColdCloud infrastructure. QuantWare, based in the Netherlands, is moving fast on their roadmap to utility-scale quantum computing. They have shipped more quantum processors than any other commercial supplier. QuantWare has evolved past validating their fundamental physics and is now optimizing functional systems around compute per watt, commercial readiness, and total cost of deployment. The framing matters because QuantWare is building something that is - as of yet - unprecedented: 10,000 qubits in a single system, designed for the economics of real deployments. QuantWare’s ambition requires similarly ambitious cryogenics, substantially more capable than what Quantum has been built on to this point. QuantWare needs more cooling power, greater efficiency, and massive cold space – Maybell’s ColdCloud is the only system today capable of delivering to their spec. At 10,000 qubit scale, conventional dilution refrigerators stop making sense. Helium-3 consumption, pulse tube failure rates, electricity costs, cooling water - the cryogenic cost per unit of compute becomes crippling. That is the problem ColdCloud was built to solve. ColdCloud was designed from the ground up for scaled ULT applications: 90% less electricity and cooling water than conventional dilution refrigeration, up to 80% less helium-3 per qubit, >99% uptime, and nodes that remain independent and serviceable while the facility stays online. It is the only sub-Kelvin cooling architecture that can support systems at QuantWare’s targeted scale. One system supporting eight configurations across a multi-vendor stack, enabling evaluation and comparison without rebuilding. Built with partners across the ecosystem, it provides a shared environment to assess technologies side by side.   • April 14. 4.14 x 10⁻¹⁵ eV·s. The Planck constant - introduced by Max Planck over a century ago and the number that launched an entire field of physics.   From that single constant, generations of scientists built the foundations of quantum mechanics. Today, a new generation is turning that science into real technology. At Maybell, our part is building the infrastructure that makes it possible - the cryogenic systems that create the right environment for qubits to operate, reliably, at scale.   That takes physicists, engineers, technicians, and operators who care as much about what happens at 10 millikelvin as they do about what ships on time.   • What a week. APS brought 15,000 physicists to Denver, and we made the most of it. Thousands of visitors at our booth. Hundreds of people through our facility on tours, including four groups of physics students arriving today. And a full lineup of product demos, conversations, and milestone moments. Over the last few days we introduced ColdCloud®, let scores of conference attendees interact with Maybell fridges at temperatures as low as 5.1mK, launched the 17-qubit Q-PAC system live at the Elevate Quantum open house, organized a field trip to Edgar Experimental Mine - the list goes on. We talked architecture, roadmaps, and what it actually takes to build quantum infrastructure that scales. We heard from teams all over the world who are ready to move faster.   Denver showed up. The quantum ecosystem here is not a talking point. It's a fact. Maybell, Elevate Quantum, Quantinuum, Atom Computing, Infleqtion, Vescent, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Colorado School of Mines - all within driving distance of the convention center. There's a reason the US Department of Commerce designated this region America's Quantum Tech Hub.   • Last night we launched Q-PAC at the Elevate Quantum open house during APS.   Q-PAC is a collaboration between Q-CTRL, QuantWare, Qblox, Maybell Quantum, Arrow Electronics, and Elevate Quantum. It went from concept to fully operational in five months. This is the fastest quantum infrastructure deployment ever completed in the US.   More than 100 people came through to see the system open, with a 17-qubit array on full display. Then, live during the open house, we closed up the fridge and turned it on. That kind of reliability and ease of use is what sets Maybell apart.   Five months ago this was a press release. Twelve hours ago it was a display piece. Now it's a working quantum computer on the Quantum Commons in Arvada.   Huge thanks to our partners, the EDA, the State of Colorado, and the Colorado School of Mines. This unique asset is now available to startups and researchers around the world as we accelerate the commercialization of quantum technology.
