The new Sentry Bridge at Watkins Glen State Park is complete! We're proud to have partnered with Snøhetta and New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to bring this carefully crafted crossing to life. The new bridge replaces the park’s historic 1908 concrete arch structure, which had become structurally unsound after more than a century of erosion and harsh weather. The new Sentry Bridge is a lightweight evolution of the former arch bridge. As the project lead, schlaich bergermann partner developed a cantilevered stainless-steel half-arch that bears entirely on the stronger rock of the north gorge wall — minimizing impact on Watkin Glen’s sensitive landscape while creating a resilient and durable structure that can serve as an emblem of the park for the next 100 years.
