The new Sentry Bridge at Watkins Glen State Park is complete! We're proud to have partnered with Snøhetta and New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to bring this carefully crafted crossing to life. The new bridge replaces the park’s historic 1908 concrete arch structure, which had become structurally unsound after more than a century of erosion and harsh weather. The new Sentry Bridge is a lightweight evolution of the former arch bridge. As the project lead, schlaich bergermann partner developed a cantilevered stainless-steel half-arch that bears entirely on the stronger rock of the north gorge wall — minimizing impact on Watkin Glen’s sensitive landscape while creating a resilient and durable structure that can serve as an emblem of the park for the next 100 years. • Our Transportation team attended the grand opening of the new Sentry Bridge in Watkins Glen State Park on July 1, celebrating the completion of this $7.5 million bridge replacement project and another milestone for New York's infrastructure. Lu Engineers was pleased to support the project by providing site/civil engineering and bridge inspection services. Our team provided alternatives for trail improvements for a construction access road, enabling the proposed crane and construction equipment to be staged on top of the Watkins Glen Park gorge. The staging pad was used for the installation of the temporary shoring system during bridge demolition, bridge removal, installation the new concrete abutments in the rock face and installation of the new steel bridge and associated components. During the event, our team had the opportunity to meet NYS Parks Project manager and staff, the prime contractor SBP project manager, and NYS Parks Commissioner Kathy Moser. Lu Engineers is proud to be part of this project to deliver infrastructure that will serve millions of visitors to Watkins Glen State Park for years to come. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this outstanding project! #WatkinsGlenStatePark #LuEngineers #TransporationEngineering #BridgeInspection

  • It is with profound sadness that Lu Engineers announces the demise of our colleague and Business Development Director, Judy Beckwith, who passed away on March 13 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Judy was an integral part of Lu Engineers and one of the driving forces behind our growth and success over the years. She was a dedicated team player whose leadership, expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence helped shape our partnerships and success stories. Beyond her work accomplishments, she generously dedicated her time and talents to various associations such as the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC-NY), where she served on the Public Relations Committee; the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce; the Village of Hamburg Business Advisory Council; and BEAM, where she served as Election Committee Chair. Judy brought heart and humor to everything she did. Her impact and contributions will continue with Lu Engineers for a long time. While we deeply feel this loss, we are grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside her and will continue to be inspired by the values and legacy she left behind. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones as they navigate this difficult time. In the coming days, we will share some information regarding any arrangements to honor her memory. In the meantime, please take a moment to reflect and appreciate the life of Judy Beckwith. We lost a great one, and she will be deeply missed.
