Is AI interpreting good enough for live events? For most serious events, not yet. For lower-stakes events where the alternative is no interpreting at all, absolutely. These are some of the main  things still holding it back: • speech recognition errors • mistranslations caused by lack of context • latency and awkward delays • an attendee experience that can feel second-rate There is also an important distinction that often gets missed: human interpreting today is not the non-technical option. Professional interpreters increasingly use computer-assisted interpreting (CAI) tools to prepare better, manage terminology, and deliver more accurately in real time. So for organisers, the real question is usually not AI or human. It is: what level of language support does this event actually need? Organising an event this autumn? Now is the time to book your interpreters. September to December is peak event season, and the best interpreters get booked early. A lot of organisers still assume that if international attendees speak good English, interpreting is unnecessary. That is often a mistake. Listening to a full day of talks in a second language is tiring, even for fluent speakers, especially when networking is part of the day too. When people know they can follow the event in their own language, attendance becomes more attractive. It also signals clearly that international visitors are welcome. We have seen it ourselves: when past clients announced that live human interpreting would be available, ticket sales jumped. It is also not as complicated or expensive as many assume. We can still provide full on-site setups, but many clients now choose remote interpreting, with attendees listening on their own devices in their own language simply by scanning a QR code. That means better access, stronger international appeal, and often more ticket sales.
