  • This #ChronicConditionsDay, Karna is proud to support CDC’s work to help pregnant women and those planning pregnancy understand and manage priority health conditions, including chronic conditions. Chronic conditions can affect women of reproductive age and can have a significant impact on maternal and infant health – it's important to talk with your healthcare team about chronic conditions during pregnancy.  Educating providers and expectant parents early can change outcomes. Read the case study here to see how strategic health communication is closing that awareness gap: https://lnkd.in/dRc83-SW    #MaternalHealth #PublicHealth #CDC #ChronicDiseaseAwarenessDay #ChronicDisease #BirthDefectsPrevention

  • Have you ever hunted for cows… at your corporate office? 🐄     At Karna, our annual scavenger hunt has become a favorite tradition—and in recent years, it’s taken a fun twist. Staff hide tiny plastic cows throughout the office in honor of our unofficial mascot, Nelly. While we’re not a farming company, the cow holds special meaning in Hindu tradition, which is reflected in our name and roots.    This year, teams went all in: 49 cows were hidden in Atlanta, and 100 in Greenbelt—and we’re happy to report that no cows were harmed in the making of this competition 😉    🎉 Congrats to our winners:  Atlanta: Emily Kaplan (Tuesday) and Kashandra Wiggins (Wednesday), tied with 22 cows each  Greenbelt: Dominique Vaughn (36 cows), followed by Alana Boseman-Glover (33) and Saquib Syed (17)    Thanks to everyone who joined the hunt and helped keep this fun tradition alive!

A recent report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine found that three-quarters of pregnancy-related cardiovascular (CVD) deaths are potentially preventable, highlighting an overall need for stronger clinical preventive services in this area. Karna is proud to be the evaluation partner for the Northeast Georgia Health System as they work to reduce disparities in maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity in Georgia. Their Maternal Cardiac Program identifies and treats women at higher CVD risk during and after pregnancy. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/emTXbPYW

  • June is National CMV Awareness Month. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that infects people of all ages. During pregnancy, CMV can pass to babies in utero, potentially causing birth defects or other health problems. In the United States, nearly 1 in 3 children is already infected with CMV by age 5, and over half of adults have been infected with CMV by age 40. Past CDC research shows there is little public awareness about CMV, indicating a need for effective communication strategies about the virus.     Through funding from a 5-year CDC Cooperative Agreement, Karna worked with CDC to collect formative data from women of childbearing age, pregnant women, new parents, and clinicians. We were able to learn more about what parents knows about CMV, how they know it, how clinicians communicate with patients, and to test messaging.    Read the case study here: https://lnkd.in/dRc83-SW      #cmvawarenessmonth #cmv #KarnaLLC #birthdefects #formativeresearch #focusgroups #surveys
