TIA. This is Africa. It’s been one week since I touched down in Lusaka, and the experience has already stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. A tuk-tuk ride isn’t just a way to get around. It’s a chance to see the city’s rhythm up close. Every corner has kiosks selling airtime and data, with the option to deposit or withdraw money instantly through Airtel or other telcos. It’s fintech at its most grassroots. Then there are the contrasts. Yango rides that rival Uber in efficiency. A Shoprite Select that feels polished and modern. Yet at the same time, roads full of potholes, traffic weaving in every direction, and markets spilling into the streets. Through it all, people remain warm, welcoming, and smiling. It’s been an exciting first week at JABU. The team has been incredibly welcoming, and I’ve already learned so much from them. That’s the beauty of Africa: potholes and potential, tradition and technology, challenges and opportunities all existing side by side. And in the middle of it all, I still found a good cup of coffee… and even a padel court. Small reminders of home, even while I’m far from it. TIA. This is Africa.
