Driving a better connection between restaurants and guests

About us

Founded in 2016, inKind’s mission is to support restaurants and connect consumers with experiences that enrich their everyday moments and commemorate their landmarks. In our eyes, Restaurants don’t just fill your belly, they teach you about culture, mark important milestones in your life and when done right, make you feel like part of a community. They are a vital thread in the fabric of life. inKind was inspired by our experience running a restaurant incubator in Washington D.C. There, we learned what it meant to be good operators, while also designing and testing our latest tech, enhancing the experience for restaurateurs and customers. By identifying the ongoing challenges facing the F&B industry firsthand, we created a unique model to fund restaurant ventures. Through this innovative approach, inKind provides funding to restaurants of all shapes and sizes who are looking to grow. As part of our model, we take credit in the restaurants we fund and from it, market and sell high-dollar gift cards to guests. These customers then interact, transact, and enjoy positive experiences at their favorite restaurants thanks to our dedicated team and inKind app. This flywheel allows inKind to grow, ensures the success of restaurant operators, and provides customers a way to support and discover great restaurants. When people hear that inKind secured a new $320 million investment from Liberty Mutual Investments, it’s natural to think the story is about capital. To me, it’s about trust. Trust in restaurants. Trust in operators. Trust in a different model for helping one of America’s most important industries grow. Restaurants are more than places to eat. They are where cities build culture, where families celebrate, where teams gather, where first dates become stories, and where neighborhoods become communities. And yet, for decades, restaurant operators have had too few good options for growth. They could take on expensive debt. They could sell equity. They could discount their product and hope the math worked. We started inKind because we believed restaurants deserved better. A better way to access capital. A better way to bring in guests. A better way to grow without sacrificing what makes hospitality special. Today, over 7,700 restaurants use inKind to access customers, capital, and technology built specifically for their world. Together, we’ve helped deploy more than $600 million in growth capital while connecting almost 5 million guests with restaurants across the country. This investment from Liberty Mutual Investments is an exciting milestone not simply because of its size, but because it reflects growing confidence in a vision we have believed in for a long time: Restaurants are not a niche. They are one of the most powerful engines of local economic growth in America. And they deserve financial and technology infrastructure built for them. Thank you to John Kim and the entire Liberty Mutual Investments team for believing in our mission. Thank you to every restaurant partner who has trusted us to be part of your journey. And thank you to the inKind team, who have spent years building something that only looks obvious in hindsight. The best days for restaurants are still ahead. https://lnkd.in/gtPRPuA6

  • Every milestone we reach starts with the restaurants we work with. We're excited to share that inKind has secured a new $320 million investment from Liberty Mutual Investments. This investment allows us to continue building for the future of hospitality by expanding our platform, investing in new technology, and creating even more ways for restaurants to connect with diners, access growth capital, and grow their business. Today, over 7,700 restaurant partners are part of the inKind network. Together, we've deployed more than $600 million in growth capital and connected nearly 5 million diners with incredible restaurants across the country. To our restaurant partners, thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey. To our diners, thank you for continuing to support great local restaurants. And thank you to Liberty Mutual Investments for believing in what we're building. We're excited for what this makes possible and look forward to continuing to build alongside the restaurant community. https://lnkd.in/gGjcXnWC

The Fair Catch Foundation, in partnership with The Guest House Scottsdale and inKind, hosted the 3rd Annual Celebrity Waiter Night at The Guest House Scottsdale. The charitable evening brought together some of the NFL's most recognizable names, who swapped jerseys for aprons and spent the night serving guests at the table, raising funds for initiatives benefiting underserved communities across the country. The Fair Catch Foundation presented Future Stars Inc with $75,000. Future Stars Inc, a local Arizona foundation, exists to provide opportunities for inner-city youth in Arizona to achieve their goals in higher education with a focus on technology. Micah Parsons, Jordan Love, C.J. Stroud, CeeDee Lamb, Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James, Deebo Samuel, Deshaun Watson, Will Johnson, Kyle Pitts, ESPN analyst Ryan Clark, and more were all in attendance, each taking their role as waiters, bartenders, DJs, and managers for the evening for over 200 attendees. • As Pride Month comes to a close, we’re sharing a little more about the story behind inKind. 🏳️🌈 As an LGBTQIA+ founded company, our founders, Andrew Harris and Johann Moonesinghe, reflect on what Pride means to them, how being their authentic selves has shaped the journey of building inKind, and why making everyone feel welcome has always been at the heart of who we are. We’re grateful to work alongside incredible restaurant partners, operators, and diners, and proud to celebrate and support them all year long.

  • Community has always been at the heart of inKind. This week, we brought together some of our top 1% diners, restaurant operators, and local foodies for two unforgettable evenings at our Los Angeles restaurant partners, Teleféric Barcelona and Marea. Great restaurants have a way of bringing people together, and it’s always rewarding to see new connections made around the table. Thanks to everyone who joined us. We can’t wait to do it again.

#GrowthLab application deadline is coming around the corner and we wanted to take time to highlight an alum success story! Head to startout.org/growth-lab to learn more and apply by June 26th 📖 Johann Moonesinghe, founder of inKind and a member of Growth Lab Cohort 6, began his Growth Lab journey in early 2020—just as the COVID-19 pandemic began. The pandemic posed significant challenges for inKind, which serves the restaurant industry (one of the sectors hit hardest during that time). Yet Johann remained committed to his vision and continued building through the uncertainty. 💪 Through Johann’s determination, inKind has since provided more than $600 million in funding to over 6,000 restaurants across the country. The company recently secured an additional $450 million in investor funding and is on track to add more than 10,000 restaurants to its platform this year. ⭐ Johann and inKind have come a remarkable distance since Cohort 6. His journey is a powerful example of what founders can achieve with resilience, vision, and the support of a strong entrepreneurial community. #StartOut #GrowthLab #Entrepreneur #Accelerator #inKind #alumnistories #SGLAlumni #SGLalum
