oneworld Alliance CEO Ole Orvér is keen to see the alliance open more of its own-branded airport lounges, although “not necessarily” in the next 6-12 months. Alaska Airlines has opened a new 14,000-square-foot Alaska Lounge overlooking the soaring departures hall, roughly twice the size of its previous PDX outpost, which it replaced. The lounge, which seats more than 230 guests, reflects the same Pacific Northwest aesthetic as the terminal below while introducing an elevated food program, locally inspired cocktails, and a variety of workspaces, quiet corners, and social areas. https://lnkd.in/eKg9bjRg

An interesting reflection from our team on how passenger expectations for airport lounges continue to evolve. For years, lounge discussions focused primarily on access and amenities. Increasingly, what we are seeing across the industry is that experience is becoming the differentiator — not only what a lounge offers, but how consistently and predictably that experience is delivered. Passengers want to know before they arrive: Is there space available? How long is the wait? Is the experience worth the detour? Can access happen seamlessly? That shift creates new opportunities for operators to think beyond lounge access and toward occupancy visibility, digital engagement, service orchestration and new revenue models.
