Transforming systems, communities, and lives through the power of Choice!

About us

CHOOSE 180 transforms systems of injustice & supports the young people who are too often impacted by those systems. We envision a future where systems are community-led, harmful behavior is met with accountability and healing, and youth from historically criminalized communities are thriving.

  • The future is restorative! Our team had the honor of attending the 10th National Conference on Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ)! We had the opportunity to hear from keynote speakers, join breakout sessions, and build community. NACRJ envisions a safe and equitable world where restorative interactions transform individuals, relationships, communities and systems through the prevention, repair and deep healing of harm. #community #nonprofit #restorativejustice

  • We support young people all year round. We know that young people without coordinated aftercare or housing support face the highest risk of returning to the system. That's why we offer wraparound support for our participants. Everything we do exists to create opportunity for young people, families, our partners and communities. See our work in action, join us at our events this summer: July 19th Pop Up Market and August 21st Celebration of Choice (registration required)! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZy2cPxx

  • We're working to break harmful cycles. The traumas of incarceration and violence severely impact young people in our community. We believe in a restorative approach to healing and preventing future harm. Instead of perpetuating the cycle of violence and punishment, we can heal and form a stronger community. Our CHOOSE Freedom team meets with youth and young adults in detention facilities to build relationships, learn from each other, and heal from trauma. Together we're healing towards justice, join us: choose180.org #RestorativeJustice #YouthEmpowerment #SocialJustice #nonprofit

This Juneteenth, as we continue to recognize Gun Violence Awareness Month, we highlight the outstanding work of Durell Green, the Program Manager of the CHOOSE Freedom program at CHOOSE 180. CHOOSE Freedom works with young survivors and perpetrators of gun violence in King and Pierce counties to support healing, break the cycle of gun violence and punishment, and create stronger communities.  Durell’s path to this work is rooted in his lived experience of incarceration, leading him to volunteer in gang intervention and reentry, which brought him to CHOOSE 180. Young people in the CHOOSE Freedom program demonstrate resilience, overcoming the trauma of experiencing gun violence in their community, and ultimately, choosing freedom. • At CHOOSE 180 we are working to keep young people in community instead of going into the system. We envision a region where systems no longer respond to young people with punishment, but with a pathway to possibility. A region where schools, courts, and communities work in partnership to ensure that all young people, especially those impacted by racism, poverty, and systemic harm, are seen, supported, and centered. If you believe that young people are possibilities to be developed, rather than problems to be solved, connect with us! We would love to have your support, https://lnkd.in/dJKfbEJK #communityimpact #CHOOSE180 #getinvolved #nonprofit
