Building a just and sustainable world through volunteer leadership.

About us

The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) is the global network advancing the power of volunteering to drive meaningful social change. For over 50 years, we have connected individuals, organizations, and communities worldwide, providing guidance, research, and best practices to strengthen volunteer programs across sectors. For companies, IAVE supports impactful employee engagement and corporate social responsibility by sharing insights, frameworks, and global best practices. We work with nonprofits, governments, and businesses to maximize the reach and effectiveness of volunteer efforts while fostering collaboration and addressing pressing social challenges. Through knowledge sharing, advocacy, and global collaboration, IAVE empowers volunteers and organizations to turn goodwill into measurable, lasting impact because when people and organizations volunteer together, communities thrive.

Proud to share these stories from phase 2 of Reskilling Revolution Africa (RRA)! Through IAVE and IBM SkillsBuild, in collaboration with YASIF Nigeria, these young people turned new skills into real outcomes: internships, volunteer roles, and career growth at organizations like NAHCO, DEVATOP, and JOPRAVIC CDI. This is what happens when learning meets opportunity. Congratulations to every learner! We're proud to be part of your journey. Every achievement has a story behind it and we're proud to share a few of them. Through the RRA SkillsBuild Mentorship Programme, sponsored by IAVE and IBM SkillsBuild, in collaboration with YASIF, hundreds of young people have had the opportunity to build in-demand skills, connect with mentors, and prepare for the world of work. Today, we're shining the spotlight on some of our learners whose dedication has led to internships, volunteer opportunities, career growth, and other remarkable milestones. As you read their stories, we hope they remind you of what's possible when learning meets opportunity. Congratulations to all our learners; we're proud to be part of your journey. Looking Ahead to Riyadh 2027: An Update on the 28th IAVE World Volunteer Conference We would like to share an important update with our global volunteering community about the 28th IAVE World Volunteer Conference. Originally scheduled for Riyadh in November 2026, the conference will now take place in late 2027. This decision was made jointly by IAVE and Ghadan, the host organization, with great care and a shared commitment to creating a strong, inclusive global gathering—one that welcomes the widest possible participation by volunteers and partners from around the world and reflects the vibrant spirit of the IAVE World Volunteer Conference. The conference will continue to focus on the same important themes; only the date is changing. We are grateful for the strong progress already made and excited that the extended timeline will create new opportunities to enrich the journey to 2027. These include a Call for Papers to strengthen the program and a series of pre-conference webinars that will invite deeper conversation and connection around the conference themes. The 2027 conference will showcase the theme “Volunteering and Social Impact,” which continues to inspire our shared work and strengthen the global Call to Action for the Future of Volunteering. IAVE and Ghadan warmly invite the global volunteering community to join us in Riyadh in late 2027, and to stay tuned for announcements on specific dates and registration details. We look forward to welcoming you, reconnecting with colleagues and friends, and sharing this inspiring event together. 2.1 billion people volunteer every single month. That's not a statistic to gloss over. That's nearly a quarter of humanity showing up for their communities, without being paid to do it. And most of that work is not visible to the investors, regulators, and stakeholders who are now asking harder questions about social impact. That's the gap the IAVE Global Action Platform was built to close. It's the first publicly searchable, live global map of organizational commitments to recognizing, supporting, and safeguarding volunteers, tied directly to the UN's International Volunteer Year 2026. If your company runs a volunteer program, it belongs on this map. This July, we're dedicating four weeks to highlight corporate action. Points of Light proudly announces the 2026 The Civic 50 honorees, recognizing the companies setting the national standard for community engagement and social impact. The Civic 50 identifies organizations leading with action across four key dimensions: how they invest resources, integrate impact across their business, embed it through policies and systems and measure meaningful results. This recognition reflects more than intention. It highlights companies that are building impact into the core of how they operate and lead. We celebrate the 2026 #TheCivic50 honorees for raising the bar and showing what’s possible when business drives positive change at scale. Read more: https://lnkd.in/edPp6Wye

Collaboration beats competition. Every time. One of the highlights of this week’s Points of Light Conference was co-hosting our joint Business for Societal Impact (B4SI) × IAVE Happy Hour with practitioners from across corporate social impact. What started as a networking event quickly became something more valuable: honest conversations about the challenges organisations are facing, the pressure to demonstrate impact, and how much we can achieve when we learn from one another rather than working in silos. Corporate citizenship, employee volunteering, social impact measurement and community partnerships are all evolving rapidly, but there is an incredible depth of experience in practitioners to tackle any challenges. Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared ideas, made new connections and contributed to such an energising evening. And special thanks to our partners at IAVE for helping create a space where collaboration came first. The future of social impact won’t be built by individual organisations working alone. It will be built by communities of practice that are generous with their knowledge and ambitious about what’s possible together. #PointsOfLight #CorporateCitizenship #BusinessForSocietalImpact #B4SI #IAVE #EmployeeVolunteering #SocialImpact #Collaboration #CommunityOfPractice #CorporatePurpose Clodagh Connolly Laura Burroughs Carolyn Cavicchio
