Smart Industry projects have a failure mode that rarely shows up in post-mortems. It's not the vision. It's not the sensors, the connectivity, or the edge compute. It's what happens when an ambitious roadmap meets a toolchain that wasn't built for this pace. Build times that stretch hours. Certification loops that delay every release. Teams who can't share environments. Fragmentation that compounds with every new device variant. The initiative stalls. Not because the engineers weren't good enough. Because the foundation wasn't ready. We wrote about where these projects actually get stuck, and what it takes to build on ground that holds. Great to see PX5 RTOS, PX5 FILE, and PX5 NET achieving IEC 61508 SIL 4, ISO 26262 ASIL D, IEC 62304 Class C, and EN 50128 SW SIL 4 certification alongside IAR's safety-certified toolchain. A strong example of the kind of safety-critical outcomes our partner ecosystem enables. Check out the video to learn how IAR and PX5 enable this. #FunctionalSafety #IEC61508 #ISO26262 #IEC62304 #EN50128 #RTOS #EmbeddedSystems #Embedded #IoT #SafetyCritical

The safest RTOS is even safer with IAR tools! Please check out our latest video that discusses how developers making safety-critical devices can leverage IAR’s safety-certified development tools with PX5 RTOS, PX5 FILE, and PX5 NET, which are certified for use in devices requiring IEC 61508 SIL 4, ISO 26262 ASIL D, IEC 62304 Class C, and EN 50128 SW SIL 4. Please check out the video here: https://lnkd.in/gtTN3AES Even if your device doesn’t require formal safety certification, you still benefit from our safety-certified solutions in reduced defects, greater reliability, and overall improved product quality. In addition to safety certification, you can also find many other videos that describe various features and use cases of the PX5 RTOS. Please visit our video library here: https://lnkd.in/gDKzEuey #RTOS #BestRTOS #FastestRTOS #SafestRTOS #PX5RTOS #Embedded #EmbeddedSystems #IoT

Most embedded teams don't have one target architecture. They have three or more. Arm Cortex-M for the main application, RISC-V for a co-processor, an older 8051 derivative that nobody wants to touch, and two more on the roadmap. Each one used to mean a different toolchain, a different IDE, a different set of scripts, and a different person who knew how it worked. Unifying workflows across architectures isn't glamorous engineering. But it's one of the highest-leverage moves a platform team can make, for velocity, for quality, and for onboarding. We wrote about how teams are doing it. Read the full blog - https://lnkd.in/d-SrjNN8 #MultiArchitecture #EmbeddedDevelopment #Arm #RISCV

The embedded development environment used to live on a single engineer's workstation. Now it spans laptops in Stockholm, CI servers in Munich, and contract developers spread across Austin, Bangalore, and Shenzhen. Keeping that consistent, same toolchain version, same configuration, same results, is not a small problem. And it doesn't get smaller as teams grow. Cloud-enabled workflows don't just add convenience. They change what's possible: reproducible builds, controlled environments, and a single source of truth for every build artifact. We wrote about what that looks like in practice and why it matters more as complexity grows. Read the full blog - https://lnkd.in/dGea3YRx #CloudDevelopment #EmbeddedSystems #CI #ReproducibleBuilds

What if compliance wasn't just a cost of doing business, but something that actually set you apart? A global elevator and lift systems manufacturer was stuck in the familiar cycle: aging toolchains, expensive defect resolution, and a 10–20 year product lifecycle that made every tooling decision feel permanent. They moved to the IAR embedded development platform. Here's what followed: → 50% reduction in defect costs → Up to 12 months saved in tool validation → 10–20 year lifecycle support built in, not bolted on The certification burden didn't vanish. It became an advantage over competitors who hadn't solved it yet. Working on a regulated industrial project? Manual safety validation has a compounding problem. Every change triggers a new round of documentation, testing, and review. The first project will cost you a few weeks. By the third, it's eating 6 to 12 months before you've written a single line of new code. It's not a people problem. It's a process problem, and it gets worse as teams and codebases grow. Here's what changes when safety validation is built into the CI/CD pipeline instead of bolted on at the end: → 70% reduction in certification time → Compliance checks automated at every commit → Legacy and modern platforms supported in the same workflow, no parallel processes Functional safety is no longer just a documentation exercise. The teams treating it as a core part of DevOps are the ones pulling ahead. Ready to make safety work predictable in your next project? "Move fast and break things" is great advice, unless the thing you break is a medical device. Or a car. Or an industrial safety system. Embedded development has always played by different rules. Releases go through certification, not just QA. Failures have physical consequences, not just bug tickets. But the pressure to ship faster hasn't gone away. If anything, it's getting louder. So how do you move fast and stay safe? It's not about choosing one over the other. It's about building the infrastructure that makes speed and assurance stop competing. We wrote about how embedded teams are navigating this, without compromising either side. Read the full blog - https://lnkd.in/ewcgn_Y5 #EmbeddedSystems #FunctionalSafety #DevOps #EngineeringCulture

Most embedded teams don't realize how much time they spend validating tools they didn't build. Every time your toolchain updates, the clock resets. New compiler version? Revalidate. New static analysis plugin? Revalidate. Move to a new CI environment? You already know the answer. This isn't a compliance edge case, it's a structural cost that compounds over years and across teams. The question isn't whether your tools need to be validated. They do. The question is: who should carry that burden? We wrote about why DIY toolchain validation is one of the most underestimated costs in safety-critical embedded development, and what a different model looks like. Functional safety certification can feel like a project inside your project. A North American fire and gas detection leader was facing exactly that. Every release meant revalidating toolchains, rerunning static analysis, and praying nothing had drifted in the CI/CD pipeline. Here's what changed when they moved to the IAR embedded development platform: → 3.5× faster code analysis in Linux CI/CD → Up to 12 months saved in tool qualification → Lower long-term validation costs, not a one-time gain Safety work didn't disappear. It became predictable. That's the difference between treating certification as a fire drill and building it into the platform from day one.
