More big news to start the year! We’re excited to share that we’ve been selected as one of 34 companies accepted into the Oregon UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Innovation Challenge. Drones and automated tech are a big focus in Pendleton, OR, which is quickly becoming a hub for advanced aviation and autonomous systems. Over the next 12 weeks, our focus will be on: - Refining our drone flight operations and safety workflows. - Collaborating with other UAS, robotics, and autonomy partners. - Preparing a demonstration of our advancements in drone tech and the use of drones in automated construction. This program brings together companies from Oregon, across North America, and South Korea, making it the largest and most ambitious cohort in the accelerator’s history! HumanKind Homes is excited to announce our partnership with the Missing Middle Housing Fund (MMHF) to design and build a community building with a rooftop deck, a 1,200 square foot non-combustible single-family home, and a shared trash and recycling enclosure in Newberg, Oregon. This collaboration represents a major step forward in creating attainable, high-quality housing for middle-income families. The project will be part of a ten-unit community, the Housing Innovation Village Experience (HIVE), featuring a range of innovative building types that showcase the future of housing. Some of the things you’ll see are panelized construction, off-site manufacturing, and next-generation sustainable materials. Together with MMHF, we’re demonstrating how public-private collaboration can accelerate access to housing that is beautiful, durable, and carbon-conscious. We’re grateful to be part of this initiative and to contribute to a growing movement toward smarter, faster, and more sustainable housing solutions in Oregon! More reading: HIVE will be the first housing innovation village of its kind, allowing Oregon’s housing innovators to introduce or replicate pilot innovations and demonstrate how they can be scaled across the region to build housing more rapidly and affordably. HIVE is produced by the Missing Middle Housing Fund, in partnership with the The Strategic Economic Development Corporation (SEDCOR), the area’s economic development agency, and the members of the Workforce Housing Investment Fund (WHIF), an advisory committee established by the Newberg Workforce Housing Consortium (NWHC) to guide investment of a $3M revolving investment fun to develop more attainable workforce housing in Newberg. NWHC employers, such as George University, A-dec, and Providence Health Newberg need more affordable housing to better attract and retain employees so that their businesses and surrounding communities can thrive.
