Robert “Bobby” Marshall's story illustrates how access to expert guidance can help educators transform their financial futures. In his case, the guidance from Horace Mann’s Student Loan Solutions program led to more than $185,000 in student loan forgiveness. Read his story:

Horace Mann employees in Springfield came together to assemble more than 500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for PBJ Springfield, helping provide meals for local families. Thank you to Jessica Spears for organizing this effort and to our Property & Casualty employees who donated supplies and volunteered their time to make it happen. It's another example of our employees living our commitment to making a positive impact in the communities we call home!

One of the most rewarding parts of working at Horace Mann is helping educators achieve greater financial well-being. Through our Student Loan Solutions program, educators receive expert guidance on repayment options and Public Service Loan Forgiveness. In 2025 alone, the program helped identify $24.5 million in projected loan forgiveness opportunities. From helping educators protect what matters most to guiding them through complex loan forgiveness programs, we're proud to look out for the people who spend their careers looking out for others.

Congratulations to Lynson Ablaza, EdD, the inaugural recipient of the Smithsonian’s Horace Mann Educator Excellence Award. Through a $100,000 gift to establish the Horace Mann Educator Excellence Award Endowment from the Horace Mann Educators Foundation, the Smithsonian Education will recognize outstanding educators and support professional growth opportunities for educators for generations. Thank you, Dr. Ablaza, for your innovative approach to helping your students learn and grow.

This Memorial Day, members of our Serve Employee Resource Group (ERG), which includes employees who have served in the military, as first responders, and more came together for a moment of reflection to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. It was a meaningful opportunity to pause, remember and recognize the sacrifices made by service members and their families. “This moment of reflection reminds us that service comes with great sacrifice,” said Theresa DiBartolomeo, BA, a United States Air Force veteran and lead of the group. “Creating space to remember together and support the families of those who have fallen in service to our country helps keep their legacy alive.” We’re grateful to our Serve ERG for creating space to reflect on the true meaning of the day.

One of the most meaningful parts of our work is learning from our partners and seeing the impact they’re making for educators and students across the country. At the recent DonorsChoose Partner Summit, AVP of Strategic Partnerships Liv Coffman experienced that impact firsthand during a visit to Venice High School. “Our educators are not just teaching,” Liv shared. “They’re showing up for their students and their communities in ways that go far beyond the classroom. In many cases, they’re helping meet basic needs, supporting families and creating stability where it’s needed most.” Moments like this reinforce why our partnerships matter, and why supporting educators must include supporting their financial well-being.
