We are beyond proud to have supported the development and partnerships at Gussie Belle Commons and to honor Gussie Belle Brown's legacy of service with new housing opportunities for individuals and families in the Salem community. Great job to the Green Light Development team, and a hat tip to Tim Lawler for being such an incredible steward of this project’s vision from concept to fruition. Also, thank you to Josh Kay for being such a fabulous partner and emcee at the event! Phase II breaks ground soon, bringing 60 more affordable homes for families to Salem! (Beaudin Construction - can't wait!)
Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of Gussie Belle Commons, a new affordable housing community in Northeast Salem. Named in honor of Gussie Belle Brown, a beloved Salem pastor and health care professional, who devoted her life to serving those most in need. Her legacy lives on in this community. Gussie Belle Commons is the result of years of work and a strong network of partners who share the belief that stable, affordable housing is the foundation for opportunity. Developed in partnership with Home First Development and Seed of Faith Ministries, the project was funded through a $17.85 million LIFT award from Oregon Housing and Community Services and $17.77 million in LIHTC equity through CREA and CVS Health/Aetna. The community includes a mix of 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom homes, along with a community building, playground, secure bike storage, EV charging stations, and quality in-home finishes. All homes are Earth Advantage Gold Certified. Twenty-four homes are reserved at 30% AMI for referrals through our resident service partners, Seed of Faith Ministries and Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency, and 96 homes serve households at 60% AMI. The need is clear: more than 300 households are already on the waiting list. Many of the first residents who have moved in, or will move in soon, were referred by Seed of Faith Ministries and Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency. This is what strong partnerships can achieve when they are rooted in community. Construction on the south end of Phase I is anticipated to be complete in June 2026. Phase II breaks ground this month and will bring an additional 60 homes in 2027, completing a 180-home community for individuals and families earning 30% to 60% AMI. A special thank you to our investor partners and event sponsors, CREA and CVS Health/Aetna, whose support helped bring this community to life and made last week’s celebration possible. Thank you to every partner who helped make this community possible.
