About us

hibot is a company that started as a start-up from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Our mission is to make the world better and safer with robotics, sending our smart tools where it’s too dangerous, or simply impossible, for people to go. Our robots are used for inspection of pipes and tanks, maintenance of underground infrastructure, predictive maintenance of bridges, works in nuclear power plants, search & rescue missions, and more. At hibot, we are changing the way essential infrastructure is inspected and maintained!

Up to $2M per day for unscheduled downtime per asset That's what hibot's customers report when a single critical asset goes offline unexpectedly. For decades, the decision tree has been brutal: Shut down for inspection - a predictable cost. Keep running, and risk catastrophic failure - an unpredictable one. Operators have been choosing between two bad options because they've never had a third. That's what continuous robotic inspection plus AI-driven predictive maintenance actually changes. Not "cheaper inspection." A new third option in a decision tree that has cost industry trillions. #PredictiveMaintenance #AssetIntegrity #IndustrialAI

  • We're getting ready to launch the FA-EMAT link — the result of our efforts with BASF Antwerp in the JARVIS project. Swap the link. Change the application. Keep everything else! That modularity is what makes the Float Arm different: one platform, multiple missions. Visual inspection, manipulation, NDT measurement, X-RAY — the same arm, reconfigured in minutes. For industries that manage thousands of metres of elevated piping and pressure vessels, this matters. Inspection campaigns that used to take days — with scaffolding permits, safety holdpoints, and manual probe alignment on every elbow — can be compressed, automated, and de-risked. Less scaffolding. Fewer permit delays. Zero humans in the hazard zone. JARVIS is a Horizon Europe pilot advancing human-robot collaboration for inspection in industrial environments. #Robotics #NDT #IndustrialInspection #FloatArm #EMAT #SafetyFirst #HorizonEurope #JARVIS #hibot #DeepTech #Inspection #Innovation

🚀 Free Electrons in Lisbon comes to an end. As the Bootcamp reaches its conclusion, conversations between startups and utilities continued to deepen, building on the momentum created throughout the week. The focus remained on advancing concrete collaboration opportunities and shaping solutions to real-world energy challenges. This final stage also marked an important milestone, with 15 startups selected to move forward to the Master Module, reflecting the strength and relevance of the solutions developed during the Bootcamp. With a strong foundation built over the past days, we now look ahead to the next phase of this journey. #EDPWeChooseEarth #InnovationatEDP #FreeElectrons

  • 🎉 Jarvis Sprint 3 project complete — FA-EMAT field tests at BASF Antwerpen: mission accomplished. After months of development and two intensive sprints of integration, we have wrapped up the final field tests of the JARVIS FA-EMAT pilot at the BASF Antwerpen N.V. industrial site. Over several days, five operators put our system through seven realistic inspection scenarios. The combination of our EMAT sensor and the JARVIS XSM Digital Twin tool reducing inspection time, improved data quality, and — most importantly — keeping human operators in safe conditions! More details to be shared with the official material of the project! Stay tuned! 🔗 Learn more: https://jarvis-project.eu/ #JARVISproject #HorizonEurope #HRI #AI #Robotics #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #HumanCentricAI

The world's 500 largest companies lose $1.4 trillion every year to unplanned downtime. That's not a forecast. That's the current cost, happening right now, on the production line, today. Per Siemens' True Cost of Downtime 2024: 11% of annual revenue. Gone. $253 million per plant. Average. $2 million per day when a critical asset goes dark. Here's the part most operators already know but few will say out loud: Most of that $1.4 trillion is preventable. It happens because reactive maintenance, fix it after it breaks, is still the dominant strategy across global heavy industry. The asset fails. Production stops. A crew assembles. The clock runs. Costs compound. Then the cycle repeats, somewhere else, next month. Reactive maintenance is the most expensive maintenance strategy ever invented. It's also the one most plants are still running on, not because operators don't know better, but because the alternative requires something they haven't had until recently: Continuous, structured, asset-level data. Across years. Across sites. Across failure modes. That's what hibot's robots collect every time they run an inspection. And that's what the Hibox platform turns into predictive models that flag the failure before it stops the line. The shift from reactive to predictive isn't a cost-saving measure. It's a business model change. #PredictiveMaintenance #IndustrialAI #AssetIntegrity #PhysicalAI #Robotics

With the final stretch of Sprint 3 of our FA-EMAT pilot, laboratory tests sessions of the new EMAT link have been carried out together with control from the JARVIS tool. In the second half of the sprint, we will move from the lab to the field with our partner #BASF Antwerp for the first real-world inspection campaign. This pilot is developed as part of the JARVIS Project, funded under the Horizon Europe programme. Through JARVIS, we benefit from mentoring, technical support and tools that strengthen our Human-Robot Collaborative solution and accelerate our journey towards human-centric, sustainable and future-proof industrial innovation. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gZRuyUBn#JARVISproject #HorizonEurope #HRI #AI #Robotics #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #HumanCentricAI

Pipelines. Tanks. Boilers. Power lines. Transmission grids. Chemical plants. And many more... The physical backbone of the global economy. All of it is aging faster than anyone is repairing it. The World Economic Forum estimates a $15 trillion gap between the infrastructure investment the world needs by 2040 and what’s currently planned. That gap doesn’t close itself. And it doesn’t close by sending more people into confined spaces, up transmission towers, or inside pressurized vessels, at the same pace, with the same tools, hoping for a different outcome. The maintenance model that built this infrastructure can’t be the model that sustains it. hibot’s bet: The next generation of infrastructure maintenance is faster, safer, and continuously learning. Robotic aid for the work itself. The HiBox platform to capture every inspection as structured data. AI and Physical AI to turn that data into prediction. Closing a $15 trillion gap isn’t a question of more crews. It’s a question of better systems. #Infrastructure #PredictiveMaintenance #PhysicalAI #Robotics

330,000. That's the number of workers who lose their lives every year to occupational accidents worldwide. The fatalities concentrate in: → Construction → Mining → Utilities → Energy → Oil & Gas → Chemicals The same sectors that own the world's critical infrastructure. Pipelines. Boilers. Tanks. Power lines. Confined spaces. The most dangerous jobs in the world are the ones nobody can afford to stop doing. hibot was founded on a different premise: Every confined space, every hazardous environment, every job that puts a human at risk is a job that should be done better and more safely, with robotic aid. We've been building toward that since 2004. The lineage goes back further. To 1972, when our co-founder's mentor at Tokyo Tech built the world's first snake-like robot — designed to reach into the places humans shouldn't have to go. That same research line was later deployed inside Fukushima Daiichi. Today, it operates inside refineries, on transmission lines, and across critical infrastructure on three continents. Every job our robots do generates structured digital data through the hibox digital platform, feeding the AI models that will make the next job safer, more precise, more predictive, and most importantly, predictable!
